Counting Crows – Round Here Lyrics 23 years ago
Spydermunkie, your thoughts can actually be ruled-out, as Adam has actually said himself that Mr. Jones (Where you got the flamenco dancer part from, I'd assume) was actually just about him and a friend of his at a bar, looking at girls, thinking how easy it would be to pick them up if they were famous(This was before they had gotten anywhere).

From what I've seen of all his songs, and from what I know of male psychology, Maria is how he refers to a girl he knew when he was very young. It looks as though he never had a relationship with her, though he desperately wanted to. She's the only one he's ever really loved, and ever will love, and it's like a million knives stabbing into his heart everytime he thinks of her, "the one who got away."

I LIKE BEANS... People like you make the world the Hell it is.

Anyway, on a more on-topic note, I'd like to say this is easily my favorite MetallicA. I'm amazed at listening to the S&M version, as they're able to convey so many different emotions, feelings, and even complete actions without uttering a single word. This is truly a hauntingly beautiful instrumental; I love it

Counting Crows – Mr. Jones Lyrics 23 years ago
I found a version of this song with an intro that was simply Adam talking about the song, and telling all the stories of what some people thought it was about. What some people thought was pretty ridiculous, I tell you that. Apparently once two boys thought it was about Adam and his... *ahem* "equipment."

Anyway, what Adam said was that years ago, before just about anyone knew of their band, he was hanging-out in this bar with a friend. Someone was playing guitar, and they both were looking at these two gorgeous girls on the other side of the room. They were desperate to go over and talk to them, but they were just no-name musicians and knew they'd never go for 'em. So they were joking that if they were rock stars it would be sooo easy.

That's what Adam says it's based off of... but it is about how everyone wants fame, and sometimes... you get what you want and hate it.

Dispatch – Flying Horses Lyrics 23 years ago
Bella00, the Flying Horses carousel is in Oak Bluffs, not Edgartown. :) (God, I love Martha's Vineyard)

Anyway, I think the reference to the Flying Horses in MV was just a metaphor for the meaning of the song. A lot of people take every part of a song literally, and get confused. I just really think you need to look at the Flying Horses, and how they just *HELP* to emphasize the meaning of the song...

Did you guys even read my last post?!

The prayer part of this is an actual Christian prayer, which is usually recited just before bed, to ensure any death in the night will be taken care of by God. The only reason it's put in the song is because it's said before bed, like I said, and bedtime is the entire emphasis of the song. Furthermore, I've known most small children to be rather frightened by that prayer, which also adds to the theme in this that the child fears going to bed.

I hate it when people try to look to deeply into songs.

This song isn't giving mixed signals, and anyone who think's it's about drugs has problems. It's about going to sleep afraid, and having bad dreams and the like. The horrors of the night; it's that simple. The prayer part serves no real meaning, except being a prayer you say before *bed,* which is what the song is about.

Semisonic – Closing Time Lyrics 23 years ago
I think it's about graduating from Highschool, or College. Something like that. "Gather up your jackets, move it to the exits - I hope you have found a friend." It's like your finally leaving, and leaving your friends and stuff. And the last call for alcohol thing is like you can't be a kid anymore; partying and stuff with booze.

Metallica – No Leaf Clover Lyrics 23 years ago
All of you are probably on the right track. It does seem to be about all your good luck turning around and slapping you in the face. Even in life, it seems that way. Anyone else notice it's almost like for every good thing, an equally bad thing happens to you? Oh well, anyway, I'm off on a tangent.

My opinion, however, is it's about being a celebrity. Everything will fall to your wish, everyone loves you, you're bathed in beautiful light. Everything's going right, and you think nothing bad can happen. Eventually, however, that beautiful light turns around; all his fortune falls, and he's royally screwed.

Dispatch – Elias Lyrics 23 years ago
I think you guys might be looking into this just a little too much. Personally, I think the song is simply about pride. Elias was a man (Who I, subconsciously, affiliate with a slave in the 1700's) who just didn't have a chance with life. He didn't give up, though times were hard, and grew as a person. Through his hard times, he learned a lot. Hence the "Could you answer all the questions of the world ... I think you could," part. Through his pain and word, he found the ability to marry and raise a family. His hardships brought great things, for he was able to care for his family and give his two boys things he never had. And what this song is saying, is that he should be remembered. "Have pride, Elias, you've done great things." He's made his wife and boys happy, and he's happy for it.

As for the "Distance is short when your hand carries what your eye found," part; I'm not sure exactly what that's meant to mean, but I think it may be saying that things will come to you if you try and reap the good things you see. If you see beauty, and try to spread that beauty with your own hands, it will pay-off.
