i agree that this song could simply be about chris admiring someone for their beauty and thinking that if he looked like that then he'd be popular and have good friends etc. however when i first heard the song i immediately presumed chris was being ironic when he says 'they'd always be there for me, i wouldn't look bad, they wouldn't talk behind my back.' i think chris wants to be beautiful but realises that there is a down side to it. if people respected him just for his looks, these same people who he thought were his friends would also be quite two faced and not really friends at all. i think this is also reflected when he says 'a little bit of me wanted to be beautiful.' surely if being beautiful meant you were popular and had good friends etc then he would completely want it. i think he knows that he'd rather be himself as he DOES have good friends and these benefits outweigh being attractive. however, i think chris has now proved to everyone how beautiful he really is by sharing his amazing lyrics. not just in a physical way but in every way a person can be beautiful. |
