Yeah, this song is really blatant when it comes to getting its point across. It's probably one of the most clear cut songs I've ever heard from Alice in Chains. It's about heroin. I mean, come on, how much more clear can you get? "Stick your arm for some real fun..." thats pretty easy to understand. |

Yeah, I'm leaning more toward's Layne's addictions as the topic of this song. They did a good job capturing the helplessness of the lyrics with the music, at least on the studio version. The unplugged version was good, but they didn't quite get the same dark undertone. |

My opinion:
Its about the darker side of love, I.E. obsession. The song's lyrics have a very dark undertone to them, and they seem to speak of how, as humans, we have certain wants and needs that, sometimes in order to fulfill them, we will go directly against what we have been tought. Thats why in the video, there is a person shaping a piece of wet chalk type stuff. The chalk represents lard, which, in turn, represents our human earges. Kind of like, you know what you're doing is wrong, but the earge is so great, that you do it anyway. If this song is autobiographical, He's most likely talking about some sexual experience that he feels guilty about.
At least that's my take on the song. |

I think this song was written as a kind of "Fuck you" to somebody who has betrayed the song writer. It seems to me that this person has betrayed the song writer, but wants him/her to more or less forget about it and forgive them, "I know you want me to love you, all you ever do is bring me down". Very good/ heavy song. |

I think there's a part of the lyrics left out of this... Damned if I know what he's saying, but right after he says "Underneath chaotic catastrophe,
creation takes the stage." He says something before he goes into the chorus, what's he saying?
Oh wait, never mind. LOL Kick ass song anyway.

One question, why is it that on this website, 90% of the time, people add the "Oh"'s, "oooh"'s, and "yeah"'s? Irritating...
Anyway, this is definately a damn good song. A great song that doesn't need to be messed with... But, of coarse, Stupid Aaron Luise (Spelling?) had to cover it and screw it up. Man, he BUTCHERED this song! He seemed to have added a Lamentious (bitching and complaining) vibe to the song. GOD, I get tired of hearing that guy complain behind a microphone!
But the original version is great. |

Most lyrics from Staley are depressing, and kind or creepy in the sence that alot of songs were predicting his own death. That was basically the message if his lyrics, that the only way he was going to beat his addiction was to die. Very sad that that turned out to be true. |

This song is highly metophorical. The whole fisting thing, I believe, is a metophore used to describe how people have become detached and numb. (Desencitised to everything...) At least thats my take on the song. |

I have one other correction to add: The first Pre-chorus says "I can see what you see
BUT IS IT WORTH IT TO ME?
The same ol conversation over and over and over"
The second Prechorus goes the way you have it, but the first on is alittle different.
Now, I'm confused exactly what he's trying to say in this song... I mean I get the basica jist of it, but I'm not sure if its about just a chick that lies to you all the time and makes you miserable, or if its about a guy who left this chick and is still having trouble with it. If its the first one, I can relate to it, if its the second, I can't.
