Love ZZ Top. Did you ever see the musical "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"? The musical is based on an acutal whorehouse that was in La Grange, TX. They called it the chicken ranch because that is how some customers paid for "services". There were chickens running all over the place at one point. lol |

| Dave Matthews Band – Grace Is Gone Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
Grace by one definition is Divine (God) love and protection bestowed freely on people. The state of being protected or sanctified by the favor of God. We all know that Dave questions the existence of Gods and things of that nature. Maybe he is referring to grace as "she" and "her" cold hand...being the hand of grace. I don't know....that's my take on this song. It makes sense that since this song is about his stepfather's death, that he wouldn't be referring to a female literally. |

Dave is married to a woman named Ashley. They got married after an 8 year long relationship. They have fraternal twins...Grace is one of them (alive and well). The girlfriend that he asked to marry him three times is Julia Grey...not grace. |

| Norah Jones – Tennessee Waltz Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| This is a great song. I didn't know she covered it. It always brings tears to my eyes......my dad used to sing this to me when I was little. One day, when I get married, this is the one we will dance to. | |

| Great song with great lyrics. It begs you to look at your lover, smile gently, and lead them on a journey of ecstasy. | |
| Fleetwood Mac – Landslide Lyrics | 23 years ago |

This song means a lot to me. For me it symbolizes a really important factor in the father/daughter relationship...acceptance. It has had a consistent meaning for me at different periods in my life. For me the climbing of the mountain and the landslide bringing you down symbolizes you trying to figure out who you really are. Someone has had you on a pedestal and you always believed you could do anything (top of the mountain). But, when you get on the pedestal and evaluate where you actually are in your life, then you come down, along with the image you had of yourself crashing like a landslide. You are afraid to change for the fear of disappointing the most important man (your dad) in your life, because you want to please him. At the end of the song, for me, you are then asking your dad to take his image to the top of the same mountain, and realize who you are and accept you for you, even if the landslide will bring him and his image of you down. Great song. So much meaning for me. I'm a daddy's girl. |

This was an interview she gave. Why do you say "this is for you, daddy" before you sing Landslide (live)? Thank you, Alex Stevie's answer: I was dedicating the song to my father, who was in the audience that night. |

| The Wallflowers – One Headlight Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| To me this song is about a girl who committed suicide because she feels that it just won't get better and everytime she tries to break out of the life she feels trapped in, she gets knocked back down. I also think that it says he feels the exact same way as she did; and since her death, he realizes what he needs to do to make the change happen, but isn't really doing anything about it. The lines about me and cinderella i think say that even though it isn't perfect, it is still functional. | |
| The Verve Pipe – The Freshmen Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
I got this straight from their web site. It was written by Brian Vander Ark. It told the story of a guy whose girlfriend had committed suicide. At the height of the The Freshman success, Vander Ark told reporters that the song was based on bits and pieces of a conversation he'd overheard at a party. Now he admits that the song was more personal than he previously led the public to believe, and that his actions in covering the truth were cowardly. "It happened to me," he said, "but I didn't want to expose myself in that way, especially without a safety net. It's funny because The Freshmen was written about a situation that had happened to me and I said it was about somebody else," Vander Ark says."I was feeling guilty about the success of The Freshman, because it came from exploiting a girlfriend who committed suicide. So, I thought, Okay, I'm successful now because I wrote a song about this. That's basically exploitation. Then I thought, screw it. Because I wrote this song, I made so many people happy and so many people could identify. It was therapy for those people. So, I thought, I'm a jerk but I want to be a hero." |
