I can't believe I am the first person to comment on this song. -THIS SONG- (i think maybe it's because it's the last song on the new album and people just havn't 'discovered' it yet). I hate to say that I have a 'favorite' VNV Nation song over all, because I connect with all of my 'vnv favs' in a different way, but no song has ever moved me the way this one has. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it, the message is so strong and means so much. I live out on gravel roads and such, and one evening I drove my car out to an open area, got on top of my car and blasted this song and watched the sun set while a thunderstorm approached in the distance. Sounds overly dramatic, but it was so beautiful. I believe in this song he is talking about going to 'heaven' or 'finding god', or perhaps dreaming about it?, and I think it's 'heaven' in a spiritual sence, and not just a city. - "I couldn't yet see you, still obscured by the city. The towers of glass reflected your comming.. silhouetted on the sunrise, did I blink as I watched? Did I close my eyes?" "I was not alone, I think it was the first time" - (because he's found himself) - so beautiful!!!!! ",you were the warmth of their hearts, you were the sum of their dreams. In the coldness of morning, you brought warmth to their lives" - ('god') "I could not imagine you unlocking these thoughts, no book and no picture could ever convey. This feeling and morning had opened a door," - (sounds like he's finding god, or seeing heaven) "I'm leaving ground, stepping into a new world..etc" - (going to heaven/finding himself) On a personal level, this song means so many little things and one big thing to me all at the same time. This is my 'ode to life'. The first thing it meant to me, was discovering myself and leaving the state that I'm in. Chasing down my dreams and following my heart. Then it reminded me of my cousin, and the beautiful person that she is. Her strength and wisdom have helped make my world a more livable place. She 'came out' to her parents, and then did something very difficult and left home for the first time to live with the love of her life, leaving everyone else she knew and loved behind. And it's also about how I'm discovering myself spiritually for the first time. I could go on and on... This song is so amazing and the whole world needs to hear it, and all of VNV Nation. |

| I totally agree with you, this is one of my favorites by vnv. It's one of those where you just want to go out into an open field and sing it into the sky. :) | |

| oh, and comming back. I almost forgot. said_corpse : if you ever come back to read these comments again... Your post really bothered me a lot. If you truly understood VNV, then you should live your life with Victory and Not Vengeance. [V.N.V] ya know? And also, the lyrics may have a 'true' meaning, but it's more important that each individual can connect with those lyrics in their own way to better their expierience... ;) just some thoughts.. | |
| VNV Nation – Beloved Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I definatly agree that this song is connected with forsaken, in that perhaps someone in ronan's life has died? A close friend or lover? But whereas "forsaken" is about letting go, or learning to let go.. "beloved" is where he has finally let go. I love the lyrics.. "grant me wings that i might fly, my restless soul is longing, no pain remains no feelings, just eternity awaits" | |

| Oh, and speaking of the quote by Meister Eckhart (props to plazbo) - Has anyone seen the movie "What Dreams May Come" That quote really reminds me of that movie a lot. | |

| I saw VNV live on the first US date of their futureperfect promo tour, and they talked about "Forsaken". Ronan said that he rarley preforms this song live, because of what it means to him emotionally. (He must have lost a love, or close friend) He simply said "We don't like to see people come to our shows and be sad and cry, we don't make depressing music, this song is about letting go... thats all, just letting go" - which is where the quote from "jacobs ladder" would come in. Just thought I'd share that with you all. It really changed my view on this song, because I wouldn't have guessed it was about letting go until he said something, and now when I listen to it, it's very apparent... almost every part of the song is about letting go I was going to paste all the lyrics that drew attention to it, but ended up pasting about 90% of the song.. anyways, one of VNV's best. :) | |

This is one of the most powerful VNV songs, I'm surprized that there aren't more comments on it. I've noticed VNV's 'populars' tend to be songs about a lost love. I saw VNV live for the first time on the first date of the US futureperfect tour. It changed my life forever. I've loved VNV from the first time I heard their music. I was way into their lyrics, but never fully understood what they 'really' meant, to me. When I saw them live, I took on a new understanding of them and outlook on my life. The first VNV song I heard was "solitary" and I was always attatched to the lyrics "if rain brings winds of change, let it rain on us forever - i have no doubt from what i've seen, that i have never wanted more" When they preformed this live, they announced to the crowd that this was their 'anthem', this song is about being who you are and wanting nothing more out of life. To "cast away this wretched world of teathers" (to cast away those who can't accept you for who you are) becuase you have no doubt in who you are and what you know about this world, and you want nothing more than that, to be who you are. And when I reflect on those lyrics, it makes me think of how shitty things have happened in my life, but if it wern't for those things, I wouldn't know what I know today, and I wouldn't have expierienced the feelings I've felt, -in otherwords.. i wouldn't be who i was today if it wasn't for what has happend to me in the past- so, I have never wanted more than what I know/have learned, and felt and lived. :) -someone stop me!!! once i start talking about vnv I don't stop... :x |

| Many of VNV's songs carry a 'spiritual' message. This is especially evident in the new cd, futureperfect. I love the lyrics to this, and everytime I hear the instrumental I sing the lyrics anyways, and everyone always stares like I've gone insane. haha. anyways, I think that this song speaks out to those who are looking for the wrong things out of their religion/life. | |
| VNV Nation – Darkangel Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| In observing the different posts on vnv, I find it interesting that their most 'popular' songs are "darkangel", "forsaken", and "beloved" 2 of which are about a lost love, and another which carries the title of what many vnv fans would consider themselves. -I guess I really don't have a sayable point to that, I just found it curious. Anyways, this song is great, but it's not my favorite. I think all the popularity with it kinof draws me away. It's more of a vnv 'club hit', if anyone understands what I'm saying.. because I don't mean that in a bad way. But anyways, just wanted to share that I'm getting "doubting angels fall to walk among the living" tattooed on my back :) | |
