| Linkin Park – Points of Authority Lyrics

Not that this has anything to do with the lyrics to this song specifically, but looking through all these Linkin Park lyrics it seems to me they're trying extremely hard to be relevant in peoples' lives and to sound profound doing it. I think they're trying to set themselves away from the pack but it almost seems like they're trying too hard. They're not as clever as they think and they seem locked into this kind of aggressive euphoria throughout that album--like they're only hitting one emotional note. I dunno...it'll be interesting to see if they can sustain it. |

I agree...it's a good times song and it certainly accomplishes that. If I were to get really analytical, I'd say with all the music references in it that it's the musical equivalent of that scene in "Almost Famous" on the bus: music brings people together and makes them feel good. Rock on, JEW! Easily my favorite song of theirs. |

I honestly don't care what the song is about. It's got such a wonderful, youthful exhuberance to it I can't help but love it. It's so rare to see a band with this kind of euphoric abandon these days... |

All comments on Blink's legitimacy aside, I love this song. The thing is, I thought it was just supposed to be a pop radio song. When someone told me it was about suicide I almost laughed. Frankly, the song feels too trite and euphoric for me to take it seriously as a suicide-themed song and it frankly just doesn't have the lyrical depth for me to buy it as anything more than a pop song. It's clearly written by someone who has no idea what it is like to be suicidal. |

My god, I think these are some of the most beautiful lyrics committed to paper... |

It's basically a song written to Pete Townsend's Indian mystic teacher, telling him not to worry about the state of youth in the world, that it'll all be okay. This is bar-none my favorite song ever on my favorite album ever...I learned how to use a stereo so I could listen to this song. |

| Green Day – Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? Lyrics

In a guitar magazine last year, Billy said "Catcher in the Rye" was his favorite book because he likes how Holden Caulfield was a non-conformist and even thinks of him as kind of a proto-punk. I've always thought the song was about Billy comparing himself to Caulfield, something I think everyone who reads that book does. |

Damn...I'm the first one to comment on this one, too. Well, I think it's pretty obvious the song's about a guy who can be kind of an asshole to the people around him and doesn't realize he's winding up with fewer and fewer friends as a result of it. He needs to swallow his pride and apologize to everyone, but it may be too late. |

Wow! I'm the first one to comment on this one? Well, okay. I think Kerplunk is easily their best album (though Warning is a good contender, too) and this is one of my fav songs on it. I love Mike's bass arpeggios throughout it, they totally make the song. As for what it's about, I think it's about a guy who's trying to stay young and irresponsible as people around him are expecting him to grow up and move on. This is one of my favorites to cover. |

Hey, BondGirl007, I totally agree. I'd have to say this is easily my favorite Green Day song. I think you're right that it's about boredom and suburban life. I always saw it as being kind of a precursor to "Longview" where this boredom's finally driven him crazy. That and I think the chorus is about those escapes becoming overused and becoming just as boring as his everyday life. |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Here Is No Why Lyrics

See, for some reason, I always thought of this song as being like a 90's version of "Turn the Page" all about the rigors of life as a musician on the road and everything and maybe about how commercial the Pumpkins wound up getting "lost inside the dreams of teen machines" and all. |
