This song will pick you up and take you somewhere. It is the most awesome song on Static Prevails. The best part of the song is when he says "nothing lost but still nothing gained." I also really like the 2:26 intro part. Yeah, it is kind of long, but it really helps define the song. When the singing starts with "pay attention" being sung forcefully and emotionally, it was after two and a half minutes of subtle and sort of bizarre guitar and bass rifts. It's like being awakened from a strange dream, not a nightmare, but a lonely and mysterious dream. I'm weird, I dream along with JEW's music. Jimmy Eat World is awesome... |

I am completely blown away everytime I hear this song. I love the part about the red sky and snow. I will never forget a time right after I first heard this song that I was outside at about midnight and it was lightly snowing with a soft red sky. It just about killed me. I like how he uses the fading snow as a metaphor for the relationship he is losing. He just barely started his relationship and it was so new and wonderful to him. Yet, as the pristine snow fades, so does his prospect of love. He makes a desparate plea to continue his relationship by saying "don't leave without intentions of ever coming back." I also love the emotion he has when he says "alone I'm outside." After standing alone outside and watching the snow fall, he realizes that his relationship would forever be altered. As this reality stings, he flees his solemn position in the falling snow in search of a place where nostalgia wouldn't haunt him. He jumps the fence and is in a cemetery. How fitting, how utterly and completely perfect. This song rocks. It is so deep and so beautiful. The only constant is change. The only certainty is death. Static Prevails. |
