| Weezer – Pork and Beans Lyrics

i usually have vh1 on early in the morning when i get ready for work and one day during the last two weeks i caught this song. it is the only song that has made me stop doing what i was doing out of curiousity.
i gave up on weezer after maladroit and this song reallly made me hopeful. the album is crap, but this song is the best single they have had in years. it has an "undone"/"el scorcho" feel to it. and the video is sweet! |

| No Doubt – Hella Good Lyrics

this song is pretty good. like no doubt, i, and i am sure many of you, have gone through a lot of musical tastes. i used to be a huge no doubt fan and i will admit i don't really listen to them anymore, though i am still curious as to their future and will enjoy their albums once in a while.
i think hold steady was a big step for no doubt because it arguably goes back to their roots more than their other works. let's not forget that some of no doubt's major influences are talk talk, prince and lisa lisa and the cult jam--which is clearly evident here. speaking of, let's get back to the song. i was listening to the talking heads' "making flippy floppy" and it is a little suggestive that "hella good" could have borrowed their bass line. yet, another reason that this song and this album do not suck. |

sounds like she is talking about a friend who has a drug addiction and is offering to help them kick the habit. she even reassures them that things will work out (We'll pay them double
Not to look at you for a while)... now here is where i get a little torn, is she talking about a significant other or a friend?
And you rely on
What you get high on
And you last just as long as it serves you
"you last"...sexually or personality wise? |

the way the song starts is excellent, they could have taken it to a great place, but it just gets subdued by these generic beats and melodies in the middle. it gets stuck in my h ead none the less |

i took this to be sarcastic, along the same lines as "nietzsche". social commentary on how people rely on this idealistic faith where everything is justified by a god. very biting |

What about before the "I left my man in Houston, TX" verse:
"What's shakin' Ms. Matronic?
Nothin' but my bacon, Mr. Shears..
You feelin' funky?
I feel so funky I don't know what to do with myself!
Damn, that's funky. What'chu gon' do when you're funky like that?
I said I'm gonna do the pony, and then I'm gonna do the jerk. I'll launch into the watuse(?).. because I know I betta work..."
There are two versions, am I right? |

I think this song is about the band starting up and one of them being a hairdresser and being stiffed on tips by their clients (ie "Frieda, can't you spare me a dime? I got to give myself one more chance to ring the band that I know I'm in") or maybe just wanting support for the band ("where is your love?") |

:O disbelief: no comments?
One of my favourites off of Want One. Possibly about finding someone new to like or love and wanting so much more than the little amounts of joy that one gets from them. I also get the feel that he is fantasizing about the two of them doing various things and wants so so much more. |

| Gwen Stefani – Cool Lyrics

Probably about Tony (Kanal, No Doubt's Bassist). She's saying that after the break-up it was really difficult to be in the band together and have him play songs that were about him (basically all of Tragic Kingdom, i.e. "Don't Speak", "Happy Now", Return of Saturn). But time really healed their friendship, which amazing is still intact, and she observes that now they are able to recognize that each one has moved on (i.e. "Now you call me by my new last name" and " now we're hanging out with your new girlfriend"). She is just very happy that things are at a very good place with the two of them and very happy that they are back to being really, really good friends. |

I read an interview where Gwen says that Harajuku girls were her inspiration for the album, so it's not wonder she wrote about them. It's an innocent homage. It's obvious that she is enraptured by their fashion and lifestyle ("Did you see your inspiration in my latest collection?" |

i wasn't expecting her debut to sound anything like this, but I really like it. She has some really clever metaphors in here ("I’m gonna shuffle his deck clean"), and lines with terrific rhythm. This entire album screams "desiireee". |

I think that the situation in this song is the same one that inspired "Mother's Day". This is about the guy that raped his girlfriend and you can feel the hatred for him in lyrics: for hurting the girl and the current relationship. What he had done to her may now be playing a part in the current relationship (trust, intimacy, etc). Matthew, I assume it's his experience, is disgusted that any one, especially a man, could do something so terrible ("an imitation of a man") and feels unjust for himself and his girlfriend. |

| Gwen Stefani – What You Waiting For? Lyrics

i think this is a great first single for gwen! it captures her eccentric personality and style, not to mention the great video. i think this is about her doubts concerning stepping out alone and having the pressure of the music business, her record company, and basically everyone. she IS a "super hot female" and all eyes are on her and her anticipated solo debut. in the music business anything can destroy you, it all depends on what mood society's in. |

| Placebo – Hang On To Your IQ Lyrics

I always thought this was about drugs. The first two verse bit and then the rest of the song. When he starts singing "Legs eleven..." I thought from then on it referred to all the shit he's gotten into since he started using. "Hang on to your IQ, to your ID" is almost like a warning to not get involved in this world and if you do to keep your ID because the author himself has lost it and now is pretty much numb to many things. |

| Incubus – Talk Shows on Mute Lyrics

I don't think this is at Bush, but like someone said at society as a whole. The video to this song adds to the message that I think Incubus are trying to get across. Along with the obvious lyrical references to 1984, the video has a strange semblance to Orwell's Animal Farm. It pokes fun at the media and pop culture. Also, when I think of the title I imagine muting my television and watching the various programs that are on TV nowadays, the superfluity of reality television, etc. We seem like a bunch of animals. |

You don't seem to be taking into consideration what kind of a different welcoming (or not) the Strokes would have had if they had included this on Is This It. Removing it was a smart move and also respectful in a sense. Society is sensitive in general, I don't think they would have liked to be labeled ..I don't know, anti-patriotic at the time.
Anyway, I think this song is about a prostitute |
