| Ellie Goulding – Lights Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I totally agree with samtwlo, she does abbreviate her sentences. She says "You show the lights that stop me turn to stone." The full version of this sentence would be, "You show the lights that stop me from turning to stone." Or, "You bring your energy and hope into my life, and that prevents me from going back into my depression." Quite a beautiful meaning. :) | |
| Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
One line in this song is: "On the borderline of the edge and where I walk alone." I originally mis-heard this as: "On the borderline of the engine where I walk alone." I think my version makes a lot of sense. The "engine" is the city; he's walking along the borders of the city. The analogy makes sense if you think about it; a city is a complex, intricate place that's always active, bustling, moving quickly, getting things done. This makes even more sense if you consider it in the context of the story of American Idiot, the Broadway musical. Johnny left the suburbs to come to the city. He's used to suburban life, so the city is a confusing engine to him. |

| Līve – Lightning Crashes Lyrics | 14 years ago |

To me, it sounds like he's saying "Odin, I feel it..." instead of "Oh now I feel it". Referring to the god Odin in Norse mythology. I know the official lyrics in the album notes probably say "Oh now I feel it", but maybe the album notes don't perfectly match the recording. Listen to the song again. Does it sound like that to anyone else? It kinda makes sense, because Odin is the god of death, which is a theme in this song. And Thor, the god of lightning, is Odin's son. |

| Guns N' Roses – November Rain Lyrics | 16 years ago |

"But if you could heal a broken heart Wouldn't time be out to charm you?" I think there's a lot of meaning in just those two lines. When he says "wouldn't time be out," he's saying it in the sense of "time's out", or "I'm out of time", or "I have no time left." So, another way to say it would be: "But if you could heal a broken heart, wouldn't that mean that I have no time left to charm you?" The narrator's speaking to a woman who's been hanging out with broken-hearted guys a lot. She's been hoping that she can "heal a broken heart", or cheer up one of her broken-hearted male friends. She's hoping that, if she cheers a guy up, that would lead to some kind of romance with that guy. But she really can't heal any of their broken hearts by herself. It's never possible for one person to heal the emotions of another person so easily. So the narrator is saying, "If you could heal someone's broken heart, then you'd already have something going on with one of those other guys, and then there'd be no point in me trying to charm you." But, in reality, she CAN'T heal those guys, and so she DOESN'T have any romance going on with them, so the narrator still has a good chance with her. So the narrator is basically telling her to be more open to his charm. :) |

| Breathe Carolina – Diamonds Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Does OO stand for something? When I first heard this song, I thought they were saying "and it's the oh, oh....", like, just yelling out a few cries of pain or something. But then when I looked up the lyrics, they always say "OO", which looks like an acronym. | |
| Dispatch – Open Up Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This is a cool song. But the second verse kinda bugs me. I think it should be like this: So they took me down to the gallows And this boy he said to me Why do you smile when the rope's around your neck I said I'll tell you boy when I get FREE The last word should be "free" instead of "back." First of all, that makes it rhyme. Second, I think that makes more sense. Cuz he's about to die, and he'll find a sort of freedom in death. If he goes on living, then he's gonna continue being oppressed by his government, no matter what. so death would be the only freedom from his oppression. I don't see how it makes sense to say "I'll tell you boy when i get back," unless he's talking about reincarnation or something like that. |

| Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Random observation: For years, I heard this song but never read the lyrics, and I always thought he was saying "Mama just killed a man." Like, I thought he was saying his mother killed someone. He says "pulled MY trigger", so I just thought the mom used the son's gun. But then I read the lyrics and saw that it's "Mama, (i) just killed a man." (with a comma after "Mama"). So the son killed the guy. But then that's weird, cuz he left out the word "I". *shrug* Did anyone else think of it that way? | |

| Bush – Everything Zen Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I find it odd that both this song and the song "Would" by Alice in Chains have the line "Try to see it once my way." I wonder if Bush were purposely re-using Alice in Chains's lyrics. Or maybe Bush wrote this song without ever hearing "Would," and it's just a coincidence. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Crush Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
This is such a sweet and beautiful song. My favorite line: "Lovely lady, let me drink you, please.....won't spill a drop, no, I promise..." I think this means that he wants to talk to her, and learn everything about her. He wants to drink all of her thoughts and emotions. And when he says he "won't spill a drop," that means her words won't be wasted on him. It could also mean that he wants to just look at her, because she's so lovely. He wants to drink her beauty. And he won't "spill" her beauty, meaning he won't forget any of it. Chipper1048 and krisstie, it's not about one-sided love, or about a stalker. Near the end he says "So much, you have given love..." (The lyrics above are wong, he doesn't say "given up.") So he's singing about a woman who loves him back. |

| AFI – Silver And Cold Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
I think it's not "Cold in life's throws;" I think it's actually "Cold in life's throes." "Throes" means a condition of struggle or trouble. Or "throe" can also mean a severe spasm of pain. This singer must have a really big vocabulary. :-) He uses "throes" here, and "imbrued" in "Girl's Not Grey," and there are plenty of other examples. |

| AFI – Girl's Not Grey Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
I think this song is about him wanting to have sex with a girl. The whitest lace of light represents a girl. This fact seems to be confirmed by the title, "Girl's not Grey." White represents purity, in other words, the girl is a virgin. "Imbrue" means to stain, so to imbrue the girl would be to make her not white anymore and to make her not pure, i.e. have sex with her. He says "the whitest lace of light just begs to be imbrued," meaning that she's really beautiful and he really wants to make love to her. But, the girl and her parents are against premarital sex. So if he did have sex with her, he would then feel bad about "staining" her, and she would feel bad, and her parents wouldn't like it either. This puts him into a depressed state, torn between his intense desire for this girl, and the fact that he can't do anything with her. The verses are about him being depressed, and all the thoughts going through his head. What's following him are all his thoughts about the girl. The thoughts are constantly in his head, and he can't escape them. He says "what follows will swallow whole" because he thinks all the conflicting thoughts in his head are going to make him go crazy. |

| Metallica – The Memory Remains (feat. Marianne Faithfull) Lyrics | 23 years ago |

What's the deal with the guy in this song who goes "da da da da, da da da...." ? He sounds like a leprechaun. Anyone know who that guy is? And he has an unusual accent. What country is he from? Also, why did Metallica choose to include him in the song? That sounds so out of place in a heavy metal song. |

| Sugarcult – Bouncing Off The Walls Lyrics | 23 years ago |

Yeah, i think this song is about drugs and not about a girlfriend. I think when he says "you" he's sort of talking to the drug. Like "all the years i've wasted on you" and "every penny from my last paycheck, i've blown it on you." But then again, that doesn't quite make sense with the "take a picture" part. |

| Blink-182 – Adam's Song Lyrics | 23 years ago |

In response to sqrt144 and PinkBerry37: Yeah, i also noticed the similarity to "Come As You Are." I think it's sort of a tribute to Cobain. Nevermind had a sort of a punkish theme to it. It was partly about being an uncool, outcast kid in high school. So it's appropriate to have a connection to it in this song. And by the way, "come as you are" wasn't just a "little song" off Nevermind. It's remembered as one of Nirvana's greatest and it's still played plenty on the radio today. In fact, like 9 or 10 of the songs on Nevermind are still standards today. |

| 3 Doors Down – Loser Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Did Tool ever cover this song? I downloaded an mp3 from Kazaa labeled as a cover of this song by Tool. It's this song, played on acoustic guitar. I'm not sure if the singer is Maynard Keenan from Tool or not. Does anyone know anything about that? | |
| New Found Glory – My Friends Over You Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
Geez, this is one of the most-commeneted songs on this site, but almost no one is talking about its meaning. Does anyone know what it means when he says "There's no room left here on my back"? I think maybe his girlfriend "stabbed him in the back" (betrayed him) over and over, and there's no room left for "stab wounds". |

This is an awesome song! Beautiful lyrics. One of the best of Live's songs, I think. Seems like no one has heard of it, though. I think maybe it's unpopular because the music video was bad. For whateaver reason, this never got played on the radio much. |

| SR-71 – Right Now Lyrics | 23 years ago |

Yeah, this is an awesome song, with a kick-ass guitar solo. I think no one is commenting because it doesn't really have any deep meaning. Also I think maybe people can't find it because they think the name of the song is "why do you always kick me when i'm high." |
