this is my favorite song on clarity, which is my favorite jimmy eat world album (static prevails is a reeeallly close second). I love this song and i don't know what it's about, but it kills the song for me to think that its about love. Though i love emo, what separates jimmy from the rest of it all is that they don't sing constantly about pathetic and petty delusions of passion...like everyone else does. Don't get me wrong, but sometimes i really tire of listening about a lost love, lonliness, etc... it's "i'm feeling sorry for myself" music, and it gets really old. I never interpreted this song to be about love. I see it being more as a song about self-understanding... "this is just for me" that may have followed a death. lets not forget the album name...-ann |

At the end when he says "you are getting smaller but still see you" i always go the image of old friends standing a far distance from eachother, one of them keeps walking away, and as he walks away gets smaller and smaller. He will always get smaller but his old friend will always see a glimpse of him.. |
