"Green river flows like melting grass" is a simile. The author is just trying to get an image in your head. In this case it is off a river that is reflecting green grass on its surface. "Later it will run black down it's track into an ocean" The sun is setting so the water takes on a black. "She stands onthe bridge dim light on her back" Picture a girl standing on a bridge over this river with the setting sun at her back. I think this image is what the singer wants you to see. I would say he is looking at her from affar and only wishes he could be with her. The next part is about what it seems it would feel like to him to be in love. Souring over the world looking down on it. At least, thats what I think it means :). |

| Dispatch – The General Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Why do would anyone think that the general is Jesus. "He grew a beard as soon as he could to cover the scars on his face." Jesus may or may not have had a beard or scars on his face. No one knows that for sure. I think you are all thinking of the stereotype Jesus, a white guy with a beard which is so wrong. Anyway, I think there is a pretty obvious meaning to this song without trying to make any lame religious references. | |
