roflmao@'Jeh-crawling-Hova'...dude, i'll be laughing for days on that one ;) but yeah, anyway, mtv is feeling threatened by all the criticism (true criticism, i might add) about how they cater to pop culture, how they're all about the 15 minute shallow-ass pop stars, on and on. you could make a case as to how mtv is accelerating the decline of american society, morality, blah blah blah, but i won't...not here, anyway. so mtv goes and says, 'hey, we're all about the music, we always have been. look, we even made mtv2 because we're so into the music.' then, again correctly, people starting raging about how mtv only played the pop crap, didn't care about real honest music, etc. so they go and stock up on videos from what had been considered 'indie' bands, like jew, like saves the day...they go and get foreign bands too and say 'we're music. hell, we even made a show on the 'real' mtv called all things rock and got that band good charlotte (*cough cough lame cough*) to host it, because we're all about the music.' so now, all the original jew fans, the original std fans, the foreign audiences scream bloody murder because now mtv made their bands 'sell out.' it makes me nauseous...a band is good, you listen, you like, you buy, you become obsessed...then mtv or something like it hears the band, uses it to try and increase viewership and revenue, and the band goes on its own way, still about the music...who cares where it's played? oops...this is about song meanings, isn't it? well, if you actually read my entire digression up there, then you know what i think the song means, pretty much... |

as aymier says, they have overlapping parts, but this is one of few songs that ANYONE does that have 3 separate parts...it's what makes the song so strong. static (staying the same) prevails, in a literal sense, could be applied to the world in general...things don't change easily or quickly. it's a hard song to explain, but basically i think it means that no matter where life takes you and no matter what happens, there will always be constants if you look for them, i.e. pictures, memories, old friends. |

personally, i can't see how anyone can distinguish between favorites on clarity, but that's just me ;) the entire cd is incredible to me, the jim is saying that the world is so incredibly materialistic and shallow that the things of true beauty and worth mean nothing to the masses. that being said, he goes on to say that what is truly beautiful is still important, especially to the people closest to you. no matter what the world does, how it acts, or how it treats you, the things that make you a special person are the most important things you can do and have; in the chorus it seems he's telling you to examine yourself, and make sure you define yourself by things that make YOU happy, not everyone else...real people will notice that i think the last line(s), especially "what you ignore is priceless to me", is meant for the fake people that make up most of the world |

i'm just glad i won't be the first here to defend chris and std from that ass up there...not british, my god, give us new jersey freaks a little credit here...skinny, so what? oh well...chalk it up to one more idiot who judges bands by what he sees on that pop culture whore, mtv. anyway, i used to love the song...before 9/11, that is. i had been listening to bleed american, hence the song as well, on both the way to school and the way home. since my school is stupid and tried to keep everyone from knowing about what was going on that day, i heard this song right before i got home, turned on the tv, and saw history...had this song going through my mind the entire time. I dunno, i still love it...but it's a bit weird now. a lot of my family lives 10 minutes away from nyc in bergen county, nj...not a good time for us. a little personal rage here, gd i HATE bandwagon freaks...hearing the middle on the skank stations makes me ill. thank god for the few people who hear the song, or hear something from me, and go find more on their own...some small hope for the future of the human race. anyway, even if you aren't deep into jew, check out creeper lagoon...the lyrics are almost as powerful, though they aren't as adept at using the music for a message as well... |

apologies in advance if i'm repeating anything that's been said already...anyone who reads all those comments up there A. has too much spare time and B. has an obsessive-compulsive complex too deep to contemplate NFG, to me, anyway, is the perfect music to listen to when the brain is in neutral...no thinking involved, just hit play and zone out for 45 minutes or so. especially the last two albums...NGCS at least had variance. this is not to say the band is a sellout...i won't even get started on that...or to say that the band is bad; they're honest to their music, glossed over as it is. should anyone feel ambitious about their music, feel like thinking about what the artist is actually saying, try jew, hot rod circuit, std (thank god for whoever first brought them up in this thread), creeper lagoon, and god knows how many others. or, stick with this...it's not a bad song/cd, you know...there's just a lot out there that's infinitely better |

i think it's great how many people are trying to explain jew by using personal experience...it's something that very few musicians can let people do. if this is about addiction, addiction to what? if it's about love, love for what, whom, and how does it turn out? jew only writes words to accompany the music...the real story and meaning is in the music. good way to test someone at school to find out if they're worth talking to is to ask them about jew lmao...oh, let me interject a personal opinion here; clarity is the best cd i've personally heard, and jew the best band. |
