I just assumed the needle was a reference to a record. Maybe don't "drop" the needle on the groove? I assumed Nick was referring to listening to a Foreigner record, playing off the fact that Nick is a Canadian living in New York City. |

Sometimes you look too deeply into the lyrics of a song. And there are times when you don't. And this is probabley one of them for me, but since the first time I heard this song, I assumed it was about an elementary school teacher. It reminds me of a Simpson's episode, in which Lisa has a crush on a Dustin Hoffman-like substitute teacher. The teacher does a lot of wacky things, like dressing up like a cowboy, and disproving alot of the misnomers of the Wild West, as he strums a guitar singing 'Home on the Range' while the students laugh and learn |
