Fenix TX – El Borracho Lyrics 23 years ago
The tone of the song doesn't necessarily mean it's violent or not... o_O Sugarcult's Underwear is one of the mellowest songs I know of, and it's written from the P.O.V. of a serial killer/murderer.

The music for this, especially the beginning, sounds really familiar to me... Was it ever in a soundtrack for a movie?...

Bôa – Twilight Lyrics 23 years ago
Meh. I think it's about a girl who loves a guy who doesn't love her back, but pretends to. Instead, he loves another girl that doesn't love him back. Odds are I'm wrong though.

The White Stripes – Hello Operator Lyrics 23 years ago
"Ms. Suzy had a steamboat, the steamboat had a bell. Ms. Suzy went to heaven, but the steamboat went to hell-o operator, give me number nine, if you disconnect me, I'll chop off your behind the 'frigerator, there sat a piece of glass. Ms. Suzy sat about it and broke her little - ask me no more questions, tell me no more lies, the boys are in the bathroom, zipping up their - flies are in the meadow, bees are in the park. My sister and her boyfriend are kissing in the D-A-R-K, D-A-R-K, dark, dark, dark. The dark is to a movie, a movie's to a show, a show is to a T.V., and that is all I know. I know I know my ma, I know I know my pa, I know I know my sister, with the eighty-acre bra. My mother is Godzilla, my father is King Kong, and my brother is the stupid one who made up this dumb song." is the version I know.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Savior Lyrics 23 years ago
If this has anything to do with any organised religion, my guess is that it was kind of... mocking it? The tone of the song just strikes me as really sarcastic, especially with the line "dusting off your saviour", as if maybe people only turn to religion when they feel they need to.

Sugarcult – Beautiful Stalker Lyrics 23 years ago
Basically, I think it's about a kid whose parents can't accept him or her for who they are. They admire another kid, and constantly ask their son/daughter why they can't be more like the other kid. Eventually the kid gives up being their own person, and "look just like" the kid their parents admire.

Bowling for Soup – Girl All The Bad Guys Want Lyrics 23 years ago
Woo. This is a spiffy song. Heard it on Much [I'm so mainstream. Sob.], downloaded it. Decided I really liked it, hunted for more songs. Decided it was a kickass band. And yes, it is. Oh, and by the way, blinkbomber, "punk", in its purest form, as it was defined in the eighties, is as least as hardcore as any "heavy metal" you might find. If not more so.

Fenix TX – El Borracho Lyrics 23 years ago
"El borracho", of course, means "the drunk" in Spanish.

So. We can assume there's something to do with alcohol in this song. Some might speculate the singer is singing to a beer. I, on the other hand, believe it's the beer singing. Okay, so maybe I'm nuts. But listen to my argument, at least!

The person in question (the singer or the person being sung to in my argument) is either an alcoholic, a compulsive drinker, or something of the sort. His girlfriend/wife/mother/sister/something of the sort dislikes him drinking. Perhaps he's a violent drunk. Regardless. The beer is trying to convince him that a little bit won't hurt ("She'll never know"). Maybe he's suffered a tragic loss recently and has turned to alcohol as a reprieve. ("Tonight, I'm yours completely / Sharing your pain.")

He gives into the beer. Or the compulsion. Whichever you'd like to call it. Eventually it gets into "We've gone too far to turn back now." - he's drunk as a skunk.

As for "Take me, take me / Anywhere you wanna go", maybe he's at a place that sells off-site liquor as well?

The Goo Goo Dolls – Iris Lyrics 23 years ago
It's about a little bit of everything... about loving someone, and wanting them to see you for who you are, not the person you pretend to be -- even though you're too scared to show the rest of the world your "true colours". And the lines "When everything feels like the movies / Yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive" makes me think of selfabuse... cutting or something... I've never done it, but I've heard that some people do it 'cause they want to see if they can still feel the pain... 'cause everything's numb... meh. That's what I think, anyway.

Styx – Blue Collar Man (Long Nights) Lyrics 23 years ago
The River Styx is from Greek mythology. It was the river of life and death, and stepping in it caused you to be immune to attacks -- but only the part of your body that was submerged. If any part of your body wasn't in the water, you could be killed. Achilles was dipped in the river as a baby by his mother, but he was held by his heel. Eventually, in a war, he was killed by a poison arrow in his heel. His heel was his only weak spot -- Achilles' heel.

Styx – Mr. Roboto Lyrics 23 years ago
First off, to the best of my knowledge, Styx was always named Styx. Second, the WWII Kilroy Was Here part may or may not be significant to the song. Kilroy Was Here was a concept album, and tells a story. It's about censorship, and a man named Kilroy, who was a rock artist, portrayed by Dennis DeYoung. He was imprisoned by the MMM (Majority for Musical Morality), because he was a rock artist. At his last performance, a murder was staged, and the MMM believed that Kilroy killed an MMM protestor. However, it turned out that a member of the MMM had killed them. To get back on track, this song is about Kilroy's escape. He finds a roboto suit -- robots who are officers of the MMM -- and uses it to escape. "The problem's plain to see -- too much technology / Machines to save our lives. Machines dehumanise" shows that the robotos, who are taking over the manual labour tasks of humans as well, are forcing humans to become something they aren't. The fanfiction based on the story is called "Whispers in the Night", and you should be able to find it on most any search engine.

Sugarcult – Hate Every Beautiful Day Lyrics 23 years ago
First off, yeah, I have to agree that this is a great song. As for the theme, hating life and wishing everyone would hate it with you seems to be one theme. But not the only theme. Fakeness of society seems to be a recurring theme with Sugarcult, and it shows here. "Faces in the crowd / Fake smiles for miles / My imitation's wrong of them again", I think means something along the lines of seeing you aren't fitting in... and not for the first time. Overall, feeling depressed, and hating everyone else for pretending to be perfect, and knowing you can't. 'Course, I could be completely off.

Sugarcult – I Changed My Name Lyrics 23 years ago
First off, I've got to break from the sleep theme that seems so popular. And, though I agree with Moth on the "no one understands me" theme, I'm going to break from the rockstar theme. I think that the two major themes are the "fakeness of society" theme that seems to show itself a lot in Sugarcult's songs, and drugs. "Sink deep into those magic dreams /
while i blast off in my bed"... which could very well be related to drugs. "I may be better off here dead" is something I associate with addictions... even at the peak, you realise you've got to come down, and you don't want to. Or, with withdrawal, you want what you're addicted to, but you know you can't, either because you're forcing yourself away from it, or someone else is, or you can't get it. (... 'Kay, I'm straying from the topic...) The fakeness of society bit is obvious in "where everyone hides their darkest shades of fears / and everyone turns tricks for fickle fame"... and finally, there's "bless my only friend", which runs with both the "no one understands me" and drugs themes... No one is ever there for this person, so he or she turns to drugs. And... um.. yeah, I guess that's it... just see if that wasn't convoluted enough for ya.
