America is great! One leader (who was demcratically *spelling?* elected, by the way) decides he wants to make a change in his country...His people have no land to farm, and so cannot be self sufficient. an American Fruit company has land on this island that they are not using...about half the islands actuall land mass...so he takes that and gives it to his people, so they can actually work for themselves. The US fruit company goes back to congress saying that "A communist government is trying to steal their land and take over their workers.....We go in and overthrow the government there and put in place a man who would later violate several human rights laws and become a militay dictator.....and we cheered when it happened, because all we were told was that we overthrew a communist government on some no name island..... If you go anywhere else in the world, and buy a history book, you would be shocked to find out how much is different..... What happens is that they put out the book, and then it becomes to hard to re-teach, so any time that they come up with a new event/idea/etc....they leave it out. America is great....I mean that this time, but America's government....well......leaves a lot to be desired.... Anti-Flag doesn't only sing about the government....they have songs about being yourself, about mass media, about the WTO/IMF riots in seattle, about America's youth, about what it's like to be a kid these days..... They aren't telling us how to think.....they're telling us how they think....and it just so happens that a lot of people agree with them. You claim to be proud to be an american, am I right? So am I.....but I have my right to think however I want...and If you discriminate me for that, you're acting in direct contrast to what you claim to be proud to be....get your shit together and open your eyes, then come back and see me..... I agree with you Rxbrother about most of what you said, but what i meant was that the "systems" (for lack of a better word at midnight) that help make bands trendy are not going to try to make A-F trendy because they are exactly what anti-flag and the bands like them (such as strike anywhere...hehe good band) stand against. The reason I quote Justin and other things is because someone out there has already said it once, and you can't say it anybetter. I had these beliefs and views long before I started listening to Anti-Flag (or any other punk for that matter.) but i started to like anti-flag not because of the music, but because they had the same point of view that I had. About RATM and all.... I personally agree with you about that, but look what happened to them in the end...Try to tell me that major record label pressure had nothing at all to do with that....Yes, I know it wasn't the only cause, but it was definately a factor. I think it's Pat, personally....The last time I saw them live I was talking to him after the show, and to me it sounds like he's the one doing the spoken part. Great song though... As too your discussion with your friend, America Has already done all ten steps, and it isn't the first time it has.....just the most recent, and most americans have a very short memory, or they'd remember that Reagan, Carter, and Bush Sr. all supported Osama bin Laden.
