Ahhh damn i love in flames.... never gets old... allow me to give it a go at my thoughts on this song ;). I see it as more comentary on society. Almost verything that we see in the world points us in the wrong direction, and the songs seems to focus on that. Song talks about how when ppl try to make a diffence, they are just laughed at ( we're out of focus, lost control-- that whole bit). The song contiunes to say how life isn't easy, and good stuff doesn't just come to you.. "you got to reach further for what life shall provide". THEN! Its got soem peer presure in it, "pressure from the fold", and then 'he' believe the dream is over... pretty true if you ask me. Summing it up- Society bad. Individuallity, good. |

i dunno adamizer... there might be a little more to it than that. Even though the song is about destroyign and rebuilding oneself such that that are immune to the horrors of this world.... there has to be more. Every great peice of literary work, song, poem, book, whatever has some other meaning besides the stated facts. If it does not, it is not great, and i hope to assume that this is infact, a great song. Not only does it have the whole images of ripping appart the body to solve problems.... but look at a few of the things that are done. Covering the Ears so that nothign can be heard. Removing the eyes so nothing can be seen. Rendering the mouth useless so that nothing can be said. Then they go on to say "Humans, once astray; made divine" What does this possibly mean. It can mean only one thing, humans suck ass, and the only way we can be devine, great, whatever, is by making ourselves completly opposite of what we are now. But then again adamizer, take everything to is literal meaning, and enjoy life ;). |

i agree with Drav that I too, don't see racial intentions. I just listened to the song again and i get no feeling of that. I get the feeling that the song is about a differnt in ideas, not in the diffence of skin color. Merly because it says "black and white" in the song, doesn't mean its abotu black and white people ;).. i've played games called black and white, and its not about racism ;). But anyways, as i was saying, Hannible does offer some good support for the argument, and i respect, but disagree with it ;). The songseems to empahize that in life, there is no gray area in the desciosions we make. You cannot say that, for example, underage drinking is kindda good, but kindda bad. This song would suggest that It is either 100% good, or 100% bad, there is no inbetween. I got a feeling that the song is about choises... let me elaborate "I am one with the world tonight. I am proud to be this far from you. " - Writers of the romantic period (1800ishy) often wrote about the purity of nature, and curroption of society. From my listenings of In Flames, i have concluded that they have a tendancy to say some romantic things bout the curroption of socity. SOOOO, that aside, i can now continue- In flames looks at nature and realizes how rigth it is, but then when they look towards socity, they realize that it is bad, and they are happy to be seperated from it 'tonight' "You say that you have no regrets, but I know that you do. " - SImply put, have you ever felt guilty? Even if you say you havn't? Stop lieing to yourself, and come to the realiziation that what you do make choises everyday, and they are good, or bad, there is no middle ground. "You claim that you are innocent, but tell me who ain't. " This, i hear, as being kind of sarcastic. You say that your motives are good, but then again, show me 1 person who would do something bad and then claim it good. Basicly, everyone can claim to be innocent. Dregd's mastery of poetry skills and muscial accompaniment makes this the best damned song ever ^_^!!!, btw, if anyone is interested, i think that the opening is in japanese :). I think the song is about "buil[ding] a wall" around yourself, and not being able to break it down, because the wall supports the roof, it shelters you. Off in the distance, there is an answer, but it cannot be attained, becuase the bridge has been burned. now, you are never content with yourself, and feel like you are missing something. Like in the lyrics, it says "though half of me is gone the lonesome part is there " (amazingly beuatiful lyrics). wow. |

I gotta go with there is some other meaning here... sex doesn't seem to be right. Maybe on the surface that is what this song is about... but personlly i think there is something else here... i just don't know what... too many of their songs have to do with society and some have sort of goverment theme to them... for this one to be about sex, and only sex, it doesn't seem like thier style. Maybe the 'just one pogo stick' isn't referning to a certain body member, but maybe (now bear with me) maybe it has to do with Everyone leeching off the government (the pogostick), and everyone gets a ride on the pogo stick. I got it... i hope this wasn't already said (looks like Ozzy460 has alittle bit of what i'm saying) (i don't have time to weed through useless posts by people fighting over which Band is better) OK, the church IS the right path, but not the True meaning IMO... here is what i think it is about. Marriage and Divorce. Some quick vocab, schism can mean some differnt things.. the diffenition that most people are using is 'A separation or division into factions." However, i prefer the broader diffenition of 'disunion'. Here is where i will starts "Pure intention juxtaposed will set two lovers' souls in motion " That line means "when pure intentions are set side by side, 2 lover's soulds are set in motion". When you people love eachother, and get married, one can obsever that their souls are now in motion, or more excited, and alive. 2nd- "Disintegrating as it goes, testing our communication." This line means that there is constantly a test testing the communication of the 2 people, and it is becoming worse as time goes on. 3rd- "The light that fueled our fire then has burned a hole between us so " The two used to be madly in love, yet now that they are married and live with eachother, little things that they used to do, now angers, and tears them apart. 4th- "We cannot see to reach an end, crippling our communication " The fighting never stops. 5th- "I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them tumble down " He knows that the couple was once one, but now as he has observed it fall apart, he is even more aware of the relationship. 6th- "No fault, none to blame, it doesn't mean I don't desire To point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over " The reason why the couple is fighting is the fault of niether of the two, however, even though they know that, they still want to blame someone. The temple here, is a metaphor for the Marriage, and how it has fallen down. 7th- "To bring the pieces back together, rediscover communication " Marriage thearapy? 8th- "The poetry that comes from the squaring off between And the circling is worth it, finding beauty in the dissonance " Some quick vocabulary, 'dissonance' means a lack of harmony. However, therapy does not work on the couple... perhapes they do not wish to ammend the marriage. 'The poetry that comes from the squaring off ', i read this line as the two accually love the fighing, and it is almost poetic, their anger, that is. Then, 'finding beauty in the dissonance' means that the two find something beautiful about their lack of harmony. 9th- 'Mildewed and smoldering, strangled by our coveting' Their relationship is smoldering and rotting, becuase of adultry (coveting) 10th- 'I've done the math enough to know the dangers of a second guessing ' It is too late for them.. however... 11th- 'Doomed to crumble unless we grow and strengthen our communication ' The relationship is officially over if the two don't grow up and stop blaming eachother. 12th- 'Cold silence has A tendency to Atrophy any Sense of compassion' now the couple don't talk to eachother, and this line can be read as 'Cold silence has a tendency to wither away any sense of compassion'. So their silence is making any chance for ammending the marriage over. This is it, no more 3rd or 4th tries. 13th-"Between supposed lovers Between supposed brothers " Its over, the end. Then it goes out with the i know the pieces fit... and this is saying that even though it is annuled, and supposedly 'never happened'... he knows that it did, and nothign else will ever be the same. Who is 'he' that i used throughout this? I dunno, possible a friends, or even the husband. Could be anyone really, someone who is directly accefted by the Marriage and divorce. And that is the end of my explination ^_^. I don't think it has anythign to do with the seperation of churchs... i find that is such a superficial way to interpret this song... /me end transmission |

My interpritation- one of the 'this songs about sex' interpretations. Sex and Parenting OK, first lets get in the right mind set, and wash all those nighty Pr0n pics out of your mind that we associate sex with. That is not the intintion of the song. Now, think of sex as what our mommies and daddies told us it is, a sign of love. Alrighty, now that that is set aside, on with the proof! The first examples starts out with "We are choosing to be here right now, hold on, stay inside" -2 mutally loving to-be parents must want to be there. They love eachother immensly, so they decicde to continue. Next- "This holy reality This holy experience, choosing to be here in " This line talks about how holy and great sex is, and how buetiful it is, and how it is only holy and wonderful if the 2 people want to do it. "This body This body holding me Be my reminder here that I am not alone " I saw someone said that 'this body' is refering to the singer. I beg to differ: This body, this body holding me (the second line is very important!) The singer is refering to his partner's body, that is holding and loving him. This connection, this mutual acceftion reminds him that he is not alone. "Feeling eternal, all this Pain is an illusion "- That is hard for me to use on this interpritation, but i guess it might be refering to the climax? Then possibly, The 2nd to last paragraph, like some other have said, refers to the child, and spending time with him/her. The last one is probally refering to a hug with the child, and 'this body' this this child, and finally embrace life, and remeber that we are etrnal in memories. not a bad song, once i started to think about it, i liked it a lot more ^_^... |
