| Jack Johnson – Fortunate Fool Lyrics

i disagree with afipunk84. i think jack thinks this girl is close to perfect. she has everything going for her. the thing is, anybody who is completely happy, as this girl seems, has to be somewhat of a fool. if you've ever read The Great Gatsby, an extremely similar line is written, where Daisy says something like, "if i have a baby girl i just hope she is a fool." An intelligent person is not completely happy because if you are so aware of everything going on in your life and others', it is just so depressing. This "fortunate fool" seems like a happy person, and therefore may not truly be aware of the world, hence, the referral to being a fool. |

"Fact is only what you believe" is absolutely a true statement. If you were told something preposterous by a very reliable source, you would most likely accept it. That statement would definitely be a certain fact, simply because you believe it. I think that is a great line, as is the whole song amazing. King Simple had a great explaination of the lyrics and i advise you to read his again. |

i really liked this song because my whole life i've hated the news since it's just so depressing. it's always bothered me how all the stories are so sickening, and i feel like jack johson understands that too. i think it's great that he made a point to write a song about what the world has come to, because it is a really interesting and important subject. |

just a thought about the title, it could be relating to "who stole the cookie from the cookie jar" where nobody will take the blame for committing the crime; when the blame is put on one person he will deny it and blame it on somebody else. i dont know...makes sense to me. |
