| Few and Far Between – Winks and Nods Lyrics

This song is absolutely amazing, "3" was chuck full of amazing songs but this blows even those away. "Winks..." is on a couple comp discs (After the Show vol 2, and vol 3) being passed around the Detroitish network, should be on their upcoming ep "Calm in Detroit."
The theme to this song I think is found in the add on the second time through the chorus, "...learn to pursue...", an attack on routinely living without any living, and instead to get out there and do what you really want to do. |

first i have to say i love how the first lines of this plays off of the previous track "maybe for now," /to awake to find me, dreaming to/.
tracks 2,3,4,6,9 on "3" all make reference to sleep which is another cool way this album ties itself together.
We've all felt this before I'm sure... impossible slumber after an argument/misunderstanding/insert euphemism. Joe's language in this is great, and topped off with the Thomas Dolby quote that fits so well... wunderbar! |

| Few and Far Between – Maginot Line Lyrics

I'm thinking metaphor (big shock, eh). Comparing his preparations, etc for his life to France's Maginot Line from the 1930s-40s. No matter how great you think you're doing, there's a potential "blitzkrieg attack" that can tear right through (or pass around) all of your defenses. Basically, my summation for the meaning is "life throws us curveballs when we're sitting on fastball." |

I think it's a lot of what you said Shawn, definitely about him and a girl, probably in love, definitely having made love. "East side of this state no place to raise a family" I think just means he wants out of SE Michigan before he settles down and starts a family. I'm torn between two possibilities, though. The one I'm most sure of is a pregnancy 'scare'. From the lyrics it sounds like it's a posting having made love, and now he may be looking at raising a family. The other possibility i think, is just that he wants to get out of Michigan and do more with his life and band before he starts a family. |

| Few and Far Between – Instrumental Lyrics

Wow, I've been absent for awhile on this. "Instrumental" (and "Stop Trying") is my favorite part of the cd "3". As always in this song Joe's writing is incredible.
To me this song is about the band itself, or the band and those close to them. The title hints at their focus on instrumentation ('realize the beauty hidden in the missing word'). 'With no guarantee we're making it seem we're on our way,' sounds like their push towards trying to make it on the music scene. The line "You think you wanted to be hand chosen," couple with that former line in a way to say that if it's worth making it then it's worth working hard for / you can't just fall into it. |

| The Casket Lottery – A Priest Walks Into A Bar... Lyrics

"it's as if you lost your heart when you found God..."
oh, i know many a man who that's happened to in my life. Go off... find religion... become subserviant... come back and they don't think they are allowed to have fun with there life. 'Tis a grand shame to waste precious breath. If you want to find God, let him forgive you for having fun with your short time. |

Hell yes it's a real song. the caskets are amazing. the first 2 minutes of this song are dedicated, for the most part, to screaming "go back home"... sheer excellence. sets such an ugly mood over you, and for the song. the ugliness of it is beyond beautiful |

| Open Hand – The Dream Lyrics

muahaha, this song is not by Thursday. some half-brain computer self-proclaimed genius who came across the mp3 decided that he would rather give credit for this amazing song to Thursday. Thursday is an amazing band, with amazing-amazing songs, but "The Dream" isn't one of them. I found this song (and found out about the phenom that is Open Hand) when i downloaded "The Dream" with Thursday as the artist. However anyone, who even sparsely listens to the song can realize that it is not Thursday. Some of the guitar might be along the same lines, vaguely. But the vocals should be all the proof you need. But, if you need more than just your filial ears as proof, check out the open hand site... www.openhandmusic.com ...

This song is really a simple one... doesn't appear to be much by it's lyrics alone. But to hear this song it is absolutely incredible, time changes... oh yea! All of it, the simplicity in lyric, and the ingenuity in the music have escalated this song to one of my favorite songs by any artist. |

Yea, these rockers are amazing. I've had the pleasure of seeing them play three times now. They're supposed to be bringing out a full length sometime soon... it's kind of a mess right now, and who knows when it will though. I got the lyrics for all of these songs, except "In Loving Memory", off of the 5 song 's/t' ep they have released. I really want to get the lyrics to the songs off of the 3 song tour ep, "Edison" "Maginot Line" and "Maybe For Now", those songs are also so amazing, unfortunately no lyrics came with the disc... so if anyone has them, or can figure them out, please please do. |
