i got a live version of this apparently with billy singing while radiohead played the music...which was nice. (but I guess cant confirm that) this song, i think, is basically everything god could be: male, female, they, watching us/omniscient, one of us, from mars, and in us. all of the ways that all people view god. this is saying that god doesn’t just exist only in churches or only in religion, its also saying that god could be our own creation or our conscience. the first line is amazing though, its bordering on campfire singalong / brilliance. :) |

erm,,,, just read over all theses comments. No one has mentioned the word reflection once, which kinda makes me want to say...... WWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAA. this song is all about reflection of your life. when your lost and you have no where to go, you sit back and reflect on everything that has been close to you, and dream up all the past and futures you could of had with them. and you lose your self in this dream. i must admit that this song does have a very big what you go through as your life slips away from suicide feeling about it. anyones thats been there im sure will agree. someone also said that this is street sprit 2, mayb on the emotions that it creates, but in terms of content i would say that this is no surprises 2, even the video is similar, under water and life going past. i wonder if thoms ever tried to drown him self/i get the feeling he may have. If so, full credit to him for coming back round again. All his songs end with peace and you get the feeling still alive too. – shit think I just rambled, im tired. hey joeytheboy,..... i think youve got half of the meaning, ie the hey look english people blindly following stupid ignorant americans and their so called dream. but i think its a bit more personal, or mayb even more general... its directly about someone who listens to songs and relates them selves to the words when in truth the words weren’t written for them, they were written by someone who was thinking about someone else. thus leaving this person empty and constantly looking for new songs to relate to. in general though, this song would be saying follow your own dreams, give your own meaning and if you find emptiness (the american dream) then thats your fault for looking for it, that there is something out there for everyone, even if you have to create it, aslong as you believe its true. that’s what i see anyways. the video sure is cool, i think the light above his head at the end is abit uphisarse though, lol. he diserves it i guess. da jazzzz........such a sweet sweet song. chilled. its about radiohead talking about their old friend, society and politicians controlling...how they are covering up there fragile contradictions with false smiles, not talking politics, just gossiping and spinning everything, and how they make people like battery hens and make sure they dont talk about all the wrong in the world, nor throw stones in protest at what they are trying to do. How they make people just a non thinking lynch mob, following what they choose to publicise......and all because they are scarred of loosing their power with their paranoia……….living in their glass house, they wont talk about real things just incase someone spots their weaknesses. What I find strange is how they liken it to a woman…“she” and “highnesses”. Do women, put all false smiles, and try and cover up their faults, do they just gossip rather than talk about real life and just form lynch mobs………………………. ^^quickly back on to what this songs about...i know where your coming from joshthack, and i guess it comes down to your own emotions being put into it.. i still think this song is about someone elevating himself by learning, studying-ect.. into the point of removing himself from the body.. holding him. but the word "celebrate" from "celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing" does suggest otherwise i know...but eek. Like I said just goes on what your feeling. tool are definitely a band that invites their listeners to think, explore, find answers and more importantly questions from their songs...hence all these long postssssss. fantastic band that have been one of a few that have kept music as art, rather than product or style or i suppose as just something to have fun with. Lateralus is by far their best album--their first was great, and then second and third just got better until they reached this level! and if you listen to them one after the other you can just hear the progression that they make both musically and lyrically. although, i dont recommend listening to them like that-----------dont think that much tool would do anyone much good.......... |
