Pedro the Lion – Foregone Conclusions Lyrics 19 years ago
It has nothing to do with people trying to convert non-believers. It is about Christian who (in trying to follow Duet 6) use G-d as a way of making themselves "feel" better, rather than dealing with reality (a major theme in the writings of the prophets). I firmly believe PtL would be equally annoyed with Christians getting offended about the presence of fuck (mind you, Paul uses the Greek equivalent of shit) and non-Christians who hear this as an anthem by which to make fun of Christians.

Further Seems Forever – I Am Lyrics 20 years ago
I love the apparent contradictions that Jason lists. It fits well with the CS Lewis' notion that God is where contradictions collide.
Rejection - Redemption
Desert - Oasis
Forever - never

It does fall on the border of process theology where God exists within time and changes. However, we can give Jason the benefit of the doubt in terms of what he meant.

Pedro the Lion – I Do Lyrics 21 years ago
I don't necessarily think that Pedro is portraying a guy who gets his girlfriend pregnant. But rather is demonstrating the objectification of women in the Church. Primarily, that women serve one purpose: to provide offspring. It seems that Pedro is really stuck on the evidence of this mindset that he has seen.

Pedro the Lion – Foregone Conclusions Lyrics 21 years ago
It is truly a shame that Christian culture needs a song like this. People talk about God as a way of lifting themselves up. They do not see that their pride pains the Spirit, regardless of the topic of conversation. Their legalism has blinded them to their own sin. Truly this is a song to all the plank-eyed, self-righteous biggots that have forgotten to take care of their shit before dealing with everyone elses.

Collective Soul – Untitled Lyrics 21 years ago
This is a pretty clear theistic song. They are asserting their belief in God as He has revealed Himself, not as people have taught about Him. It is not their miracles or sweet words that have earned their faith, but rather the existence of God has prompted belief.

Furthermore – Are You The Walrus? Lyrics 22 years ago
It's witty, NOT FUNNY. Is spousal abuse funny? Poverty?

The Walrus is a character in "Through the Looking Glass." He came across as a really nice guy. His kindness enticed a group of clams to follow him. When he got back to his house, he proceeded to shuck and eat the clams.

Lifehouse – Everything Lyrics 23 years ago
I think there is a duality to it. It is very much a love song and it seems to be directed towards God. As a Christian lyricist, I will tell you that every love song I have ever been able to write could be sung to both the girl and God. This song is way more directed to God.

"and how can i
stand here with you
and not be moved by you "

I just cannot imagine ever saying this to a girl.

Lifehouse – Unknown Lyrics 23 years ago
His fake world is being ripped from him. All of what society teaches about the world, is being proved false to him. He is pleading with God to let some of this facade be real. He was so secure and sure in his world. He gets to the point, where he needs to go out on a limb and take a chance in God. He eventually realizes that only God has life all figured out and that the unknown, the thing that frightens him, is the thing that keeps him hanging on to God. A good song for our time.

Lifehouse – Only One Lyrics 23 years ago
He has really got burned by some girl. He changed himself for this girl, and afterwards, he is left with what he has become and who she really was. Then, he looks to God and realizes that no one can change Him. He has been looking for love and consistancy in romantic relationships, but it really can only be found in God.

I love Lifehouse, they write love-songs to God. I mean, afterall, as the Church, we ARE His bride. Why shouldn't we write Him some love-songs and sonnets?

Lifehouse – Somebody Else's Song Lyrics 23 years ago
We are conditioned by society. Told how to think and act by the media. We are forced to live lives that aren't our own. Because of this, we are left with a longing desire to have our own experiences and learn who we really are. That is what this song conveys to me.

Relient K – Down In Flames Lyrics 23 years ago
Yeah, there obviously is a meaning to this song. This place is to discuss meaning, so I will break the ice.

This song is about the damage we (Christians) do to one another through our division. Are minds are closed to our fellow bretheren and we can't let it continue. For 500 years we have been separated by the Schisms of man instead of being united in the pormise of God. If we let this continue, we not only hurt each other, but will keep others from getting to know God and entering into Eternity with Him.

Thousand Foot Krutch – When In Doubt Lyrics 23 years ago
Yeah, it seems to be growing up and comming out of the bubble that school places around kids. He starting to ask some deeper, philosophical questions and realizing that what he has in his life is not satisfying these questions. This doesn't say anything about Jesus, it just says that what he had inside is bubble was not everything that life is.

Project 86 – Stein’s Theme Lyrics 23 years ago
You all have a good point, but that fails to satisfy the song's endinging.

"Hear the silent ignorant voices spew;
'You’re all a pack of disoriented youth'"

This song goes out, also, to the older generations who look down on us b/c we are loud, pierced and tattooed. We are a passionate generation and as Christians, we are rocking the boat in our churches. It's like the older Christians are trying to stop of from being who God's called us to be. Telling us to play softer music and dress and behave a certain way.

But I think you guys are right, that this song is directed towards Satan. Truth be told, it directed towards anyone who stand in our way of living for Christ and being who He made us to be.

Project 86 – One Armed Man (play On) Lyrics 23 years ago
I think it is a song about everyone. Zombies are looking to satisfy a hunger and keep them numb to the pain. Becuase we live in a fallen world, we have a void that we crave to be filled. The singer is making reference that he has succeeded (found Christ) and that everyone else sees that he has. However, they don't want to feel anything, so they reject what he has. It's not so much that they don't understand how to get it, as much as they don't want it. Schawb makes it very clear that they are purposely looking elsewhere. His response is to flood their existence with the Truth he has found.

Pax 217 – Voices Lyrics 23 years ago
This song is a calling for Christians, especially the youth, to check their focus. When we are our own focus, we follow false gods and don't show God to our world. Each and every Christian needs to know that their choices effect everyone around them and if Christ is not the center of their lives, then we can't shape our world. However, when united in Christ, we have the power to redefine our nation and are unstoppable, b/c our power is from God.

Pax 217 – what is love Lyrics 23 years ago
The writer's friend (or whatever she is to him) has been violated sexually. He sees the pain that she is going through. The first two verses and the choruses are all about his anger towards the guy that did this to her. He HATES him and desires vengence. In the last two verses, there is a shift in focus to the girl. Once he gets past the anger, all he wants is to help the girl move on and overcome. It's as if he realizes that he can't change what has happened, but instead turns his efforts to dealing with the aftermath. It is a very accurate portrait of human emotion in a situation that few people are willing to talk about.
