Slipknot – People = Shit Lyrics 23 years ago
I got an e-mail!

"Slipknot doesn't whine, you faggot!!!!"

I think they do, and apparently so do you. Some of you people need to grow up and learn how to back up your statements. When I offered to discuss it "intelligently and without insults" on AIM, he responded:

MudVayne503 : ok
MudVayne503 : slipknot doesn't whine!!!!

Which I assume is him blocking me. Such wonderful people here.

Here's something interesting...

If you're true punk, you don't like labels, right? Because everyone is who they are.

But you're labeling yourself as a true punk.

How? Isn't that slightly hypocritical?

The X-ecutioners – It's Going Down Lyrics 23 years ago
I agree completely with A2K. I also think it's a breakdown of the science of hiphop : you can't just talk fast, you've gotta talk fast with style, flair, and something someone hasn't done before. This had some great scratching and interesting special effects, which seperates it from the rest of the rap mainstream.

Linkin Park – High Voltage (Remix) Lyrics 23 years ago
Download it or find it on the "one step closer" single.

Anyway, the main thing that attracted me to this was the big words. Nevermind what they mean, he uses large complex words in his rap. In the mainstream rap circle, its all about short and simple rhymes, and doesn't stray very far from the main subjects of drugs, biznatches, and benzez.

Here... we find something that really isn't very much deeper but is refreshing in the rhyming technique.

"Sprayin’ bright day over what you might say
My Blood type's Krylon Technicolor type A "

When i first heard that I said to myself "That is the single coolest line ever, and I don't even know what it means." Just a damn good rap.

Jimmy Eat World – The Middle Lyrics 23 years ago
This is one of those songs that I like above the others, because you actually know what the vocalist is saying. He's saying "screw everyone else, as long as you're good enough for you you don't need them". Beautiful song.

Or it could be an amazing coincidence in a song that's about playing his record backwards.

Mushroomhead – Solitaire Unraveling Lyrics 23 years ago
Decent lyrics, I was thinking about them as more of a man who is having massive psychological stresses and is NOT willing to whine about it like slipknot does so often. I like the fight message.

From the capital punishment viewpoint... yeah, that makes sense too. I haven't actually heard Mushroom Head (Was directed here by a friend) so I don't know what they usually sing about, so I'm probably not the best to analyze.

And I don't agree with Bennington being the "Best Singer of all Time". His voice really isn't anything special. It works well in his music, though, especially when they layer it with Shinoda's rapping.

I like Linkin Park, but I do find that their lyrics are very unrefined. You aren't totally sure what their talking about at some points, and reading inbetween the lines is merely speculation. I think they have a lot of potential, but this song is one of the lesser on the album IMO.
What can he not take anymore? Most would guess his girlfriend controlling him or perhaps some guy bugging him at work, but we don't know because all he talks about is how screwed up he's feeling.

I agree completely with Melancholy, although I want to elaborate on their use of swear words.

I like swear words. They're excellent. I encourage their use in everyday life as a descriptive term, because it's a great way to sum up a feeling.

But, in a song? Is it a good thing to "sum up" something that is supposed to explain exactly how someone feels?
For instance, take the song name. People = Shit. Now, I could forgive this use if they explained it in more detail. What aspect of people do they find to equal shit? The refrain doesn't tell us, and neither doe the rest of our song. So what does it mean?

Unfortunatly, it means only one thing. It means these guys are reaching out to a select group of people who think that their lives are out of their hands and the only way to cope is to bend over and take it or beat the living hell out of someone.

I've never really cared for slipknot, mainly because they have enough band members to start their own country and their lyrics preach violence when it's not needed, but I can understand why some might. Just don't try and get fooled into the fact that these folks are deep:they aren't.

Oh, and by the way, don't call me a prep, as that would be VERY hypocritical. Aren't most of you against labels?
