Here's my take on the song:
It's about a person who sees the world as a place where people are fed information and told what to like (we get some rules to follow, we get theses pills to swallow). They can't see an end to the trend-driven consumer-controlled world (I journey through the desert / of a mind with no hope), so they decide to give in (pleasantly caving in/I come undone) and decide to follow the crowd. Being a sheep, they are happier than when they were an independent person (heaven smiles above me/ what a gift here below) because they are no longer frustrated with society (gift that you give to me/no one knows)
I'm probably phenomenally off-base though. but, whatever. |

what exactly is wrong with religion? Ok, maybe some people use it as excuse to persecute other people, but that's not everyone!! Is there really anything wrong with wanting to have a community that supports you and offers you unconditional love, no matter what? Maybe if Ian Mckay picked up a bible himself, he would see that it contains a loving message. BY saying that people who are relgious are idiots, he is as bad as a zealot who says that those without faith are evil. Hypocrisy. |
