I'm not going to try and find out the "real" meaning of this song, but it has a very special personal meaning for me. I'll share my story, if you don't mind... this past June (ironically) my very close guy-friend and I admitted we had feelings of more than friends for one another. It was someting we'd both felt for a long time, but had been afraid to confess. Yet, we were extremely unsure and confused. After a lot of discussing, we decided to try dating. I don't think any song's lyrics could be more perfectly fitting. And just the beautiful, placid and almost casual mood the music creates fits so well. In the end, my guy and I realized our feelings were not "for sure," but we've grown to become closer friends. :) |

I agree with the locking-himself-in-a-room-and-trying-to-write theory, but I think that when he says "note to self: no one cares, your voice is average" he's comming to the realization that no one really cares about his personal problems because everyone feels the same things. We all suffer lonliness and other common feelings, so his experiences are nothing unique. |

Wow, this is incredible. In my opinion the lyrics alone, when read as a poem, are actually superior to the song. When I read it, it creates the tickeling butterfly feeling of teenage love in my tummy. :) and the part about shows being important is just perfect. I sure wish this song would come true for me... |

I love this song, especially the line "WHOEVER SAID TO HAVE LOVED AND LOST IS BETTER THAN NEVER LOVING NEVER FELT LIKE THIS!" Because in the begining of a breakup that is exactly how it feels. That line perfectly captures the heartache. It expresses how when we lose them, we feel like we are loosing EVERYTHING. I'm guessing that this song is about his lover leaving him for another guy "BUT AS YOU WALK INTO HIS ARMS..." It's sad stuff but makes one beautiful song.
