Nine Inch Nails – Somewhat Damaged Lyrics 23 years ago
This is the best NIN song ever (right next to hurt). I dont feel that there is really a metaphorical meaning at all. It is simple. How many times have you relied upon someone? SOmeone who you thought would always be there for you and never leave you high and dry? Well the reality of this fucked up world is that, it will happen to you sooner or later. The lyrics are pretty self explanitory. As for the meaning to Trent, it is about his depression henceforth the downward spiral, as well as an accumulative of his entire life.

Tool – Jerk-Off Lyrics 23 years ago
I believe that Suzy Q put it the best. My interpratation is simply based on the questioning of authority. We are born and placed into roles, which are foisted upon us, and we are expected to act a certian way. When someone breaks this fragile reality, they are cast out by society, because, believe this, they auctually thought for themselves. In a general overview, Maynard is posing the question "Who the fuck gave anyone (society) the right to determine what is right and wrong"? The song basically states how Maynard defys society, by stepping out of line.
Though, it also explains how the people who set the standards often break them.
Example: The (John Wayne Gacy) Popes who like to ass rape little kids. Isn't it ironic how the church sets those standards and those priests preach them every Sunday, though they don't really have a second that about breaking what they preach.
In conclusion, Maynard decides to take matters into his own hands, because he infers that society will never change. Therfore, he kills (metaphor) whomever he is singing about. The metaphor is pretty much and action which would exploit the lies and hypocrisy of the authorities.

Tool – Swamp Song Lyrics 23 years ago
Taking Into consideration what everyone has posted so far, I think that there is a pretty simple and logical explination to "Swap Song". It is my personal beleif, that this is about organized religion or more specifically CHristianity. Though I suppose the details as far as which religion dont really make a difference. Maynard has warned them, that it is nothing more than a shceme, and that it will suck them down, but whoever this song is about didn't listen and is now suffering the reppricussions. Farily Simple I suppose. Though this song could also pertain to society as a whole and how people choose not to listen to others (such as Maynard), because he may be cantankerous. This in mind, that person follows the rest of society (by not thinking for themselves) and gets lured into a trap. Hence, Maynard is saying "Why didn't u listen to me, dumbass"?

Though the beauty of Tool, is that the band members never come out and say what the songs are really about. (Except for a few cases, though they were not definate). Tool leaves the interpratation up to you, the fan to decide what the meaning is. Like Maynard said: " My goal is to have evryone who listens to our music to get something out of it". The specifics don't really matter, this is simply my interpratation.

Tool – L.A. Municipal Court Lyrics 23 years ago
Alright, since no one has any idea what the hell this means, ill give u my idea. MAynard was quoted on saying that the LA Municipal Court is a place that you would only want to visit once, just like the song. ( taking into consideration the repition of the song, though i still like it a lot). Anyway, I infer that Maynard is refering to the lawsuit with former manager over Tool's rights to seek out other record labels. Since Tool is LA based, this is possibly where the trial took place....
Though the case never went to court, it would have and this is a place that no one, espically Tool would ever want to visit.. more than once....

Though it could also be interpreted as a metaphor for the inaneness of U.S. Courts and how pointless they are, this was auctually my original interpratation.
