I found this song while searching for themes of prejudice for an english assignment. I need to comment on this conversation. First of all, a comment was made a while back about atheism condoning and feeding from intolerance. As an atheist myself, I would like to clear some things up. Atheism is not a religion. Religion is defined as a beleif in the supernatural and/or worship in god(s). Since atheists have no belief in the supernatural or in any god, gods, godess, or godesses, atheism is not a religion. Atheism is better described as the lack of religion. In fact, Webster's dictionary defines atheism as denying the existence of god or gods. I am not intolerant of anyone who holds a different set of beliefs than me. Nor am I intolerant of any body who is of a differant race, gender, or sexual orientation than I am. I think many atheists are bitter regarding christians becuase christianity has been shoved down thier throat their entire lives. I've had christians tell me that I'm a sinner, I'm going to hell, et cetera. However, I realize that not all christians are like this, so I don't resort to being intolerant of christians. I'm intolerant of intolerance. Most of my best friends subscirbe to some form of christianity or another, and we all get along fine. I only debate religion with people if they bring it up with me. I feel no need to shove my beleifs down other people's throats. And as to what Grim713 said, the Bible does say to love everyone. If you really are a christian, than you will be accepting, and not condemn or judge people. |
