Wilco – At Least That's What You Said Lyrics 21 years ago
mkilby is on point. I read Tweedy saying something about the headaches he suffered during the recording of AGIB making it painful to even talk. He hinted at that it was often easier to let the instruments tell the story than to sing. I guess that is why you get all the arena rock solos, such as on Hell is Chrome. When you see the live show, the songs seem to work even better than on the album.

Pedro the Lion – Magazine Lyrics 23 years ago
Wouldn't you love to be?
On a cover of a magazine
Healthy skin, perfect teeth
Design to hide what lies beneath, what lies beneath

What great commentary on our society...

Pedro the Lion – A Mind of Her Own Lyrics 23 years ago
Related actually to "Never leave a job half done":
Think about this; He has killed his wife and his last thoughts before "Eye on the Finish Line" (where he kills himself) are "she almost ruined everything"... these are his last thoughts after killing his wife, other than if only he could've pulled off the lie! Bazan is so brilliant on this song and yet this isn't even the best part.... he ends the song with the little be-bop after the ultimate display of moral decay! I love this guy!

To punkkills:
Read any interview with Pedro (David Bazan). He is not out to convert the world or shove the gospel in anyone's face, but he will be the first to state his faith has significant impact on his songwriting. This does not mean every song is based around that or that Pedro is a "christian band". Again, any interview states he does not want to be categorized, but simply wants to create and tell stories through his songs in a manner that makes the listener reflect. And this is what makes Pedro so stunningly beautful is the brutal honesty with which he tells these stories and how he doesn't hesitate to address the deep, dark secrets that every man (woman) hides within the confines of his (her) heart. Although I agree that it sometimes makes me sad that fundamentalists try to bend people like Bazan and art he creates into their boxed concept of christianity, your statement itself seems prejudiced.

Wilco – Reservations Lyrics 23 years ago
In the summer of 2001, I saw Wilco perform at the Pageant, the first time they had played in St. Louis in roughly 5 years. This was also the first time I had seen them since Jay Bennet and Ken Coomer had left the band, so I was nervous as to how they would sound. I had heard "Reservations" before, but was not prepared for what I heard that night. Jeff Tweedy has truly found beauty in noise. I was astounded at how gorgeous of an arrangement was created. For the majority of the song Tweedy was on the floor, using not his guitar, but his guitar pedals as the instrument. It was unreal. You were able to close your eyes and the sound enveloped you. If you can see this band live, it is worth every penny.

Rufus Wainwright – Poses Lyrics 23 years ago
This song is fabulous. I read a Rufus quote in which he said something to the effect of "Once I had written this song, I knew I could base an entire album of material around it." Tubesocks has maybe hit on part of the songs meaning and I absolutely love the line he quoted (some of Wainwright's poetic songwriting at it's finest), but their also seems to be something more here and I can't quite put my finger on it. Is the song more sinister than it lets on to be? And what is the tie-in to excess, as discussed on other parts of the album and such blatant fascination with materiality (see lines 2 and 6 - red leather jacket and brand name sunglasses)?
