I think everyone should interpret the lyrics about hurting his mother as they want, there is no proof that either argument is wrong. The abuse from either his actual mother, or the mother of society, is changing him, making him a demon because of his suffering. Anything odd in song lyrics can easily be explained by drugs, but I think many songs are written on emotions caused by the singer's life, not some pill. |

SOAD is one of the most thoughful bands that have come along- and they are very talented musically as well. If it's not your style of music, that's fine, but you're the shallow one if you look at the lyrics and can't find any meaning in them. |

I'm pretty sure it's atonement. In an interview or something I think the drummer said that the name Mushroomhead was designed to make people think because it could mean so many things. Drugs, sex, or fungal. It supposed to be kind of ambiguous. The two things that I thought of that could be the new masterpiece: Life, or Civilization. Rembrant as my right hand, solo as my pilot. Does anyone get that? Because of the talents of others in the past its possible to build things (masterpiece, way of living, civilization) that one couldn't alone. I really haven't figured this out though. |

Trying to describe teh feeling of no matter how much you do there's no way you can fully express your anger, your emotions, of pain that surrounds you. Blood pigs? Kind of struck me as people who use others for their own benefit and just leave them to die without a care. The song seems to be her reaction to the torment caused by this attitude. 'My mistake was trusting you' She thought someone cared for her and she trusted them but in the end they just walked away no matter what she did. Her life was shaped by these ignorant pigs who misled her. They destroyed what they didn't care to understand. This song portrays anger so well, not just in screaming, but describing how anger gets into your mind. The music is just brutal, too. Awesome song. |

| I agree with Denver method. He tries to convince her of what he feels but talking to her weakened him into sand, and all he could do was flow away. Seems liek no one else cared until the moment they found out what happened and by then the only way they could see her was a picture in a frame. | Everone is pointing out different specific things that people over-use and get desensitized to (drugs, sex, 'love'). In my opinion that is alll correct but the song seems to be making a statement about the human nature to waste what we have because we can get more of it and then it means nothing, though the analogy of fisting. | |

Ive contemplated the possibility that this song is trying to say so many things at once that it is impossible to figure out. Another idea from the video: everyone has a bit of a psycho inside of them, druggies, warlords, police, ordinary people, and that the government is pretending to be so professional when even it can be corrupted (notice that soad are dancing around with facepaint screaming while figures of authority seem normal until a shot of them going crazy and shouting SUGAR switches ot the next) Sugar could represent something that corrupts... drugs, money, power... |

This is one of the most beautiful and meaningful love songs I've ever heard. It always struck me as speaking to his love and wanting to rebel against teh rest of ther world with her. This is not sappy or anything, it just rules. I wish I could voice my emotions the way this song does. Cmoore- your interpretation is what it sounded like to me. I can relate to every word of this song. 'No one important'- You need to fuck off,. Stop trying to prove you're own superiority and find something thats important to you. Open your fuckign mind. This is a very powerful song and 'Hell I call my head' obviously understands its message. I know this song relates to experiences in my life and thats where the emotion comes from. That's what music is for. If you think tears are a sign of weakness, then what can be said about your meaningless insults? |

This is a great song. At first I got a very angry impression from it, but less so as I listen to it more. Might have to do with not being able to feel love when it's there. Maybe he took advantage of someone and realises that he is wrong, wants forgiveness, but he also knows what he is capable of so he cant let them trust him again. |

I agree with andamizer. This song could mean a lot on the perspective of time and mortality. Solitaire is a type of diamond. I think the title in itself is saying that nothing lasts forever. Everything and everyone is condemned to life and death, so people need to wake up and use their lives to amount to something. Time ticks away these last few moments... is there anything we've left unsaid? Basically, the end is going to come and people don't realize it until they're staring death in the face and then there are things that should have been said or done when they had time. I'm on a quest for atonement, got to find a peice of mind and a place to rest... Need to make everything the best I can and accept what life is. Even the sounds eem to progress through ages... the begining starts off with random sounds, then sounds almost like a toy, a simple melody. Then it explodes into full fledged guitar and gradually becomes more reflective with the repeated lyrics and keyboards. The end goes strand by strand and fades out. Makes me think of life, newborn, growing, childhood, adolesence, adulthood, and old age. Everyone fades away but when each generation has a responsibility to work with the next they create world (masterpiece) for their children. This is just something I thought up with a friend. I'm not sure if it's anythihng like what Mushroomhead had in mind but I find it interesting and no one else seems to have mentioned this view. |

I find deciphering song meanings an important part of listening to them. After a while of thinking about it, thsiu song could also be related to chemical dependency and how it fucks you up. Kombucha mushroom people, sitting around all day. WHo will beleive you? You lose your sanity, you're credibility. DO things you can't control. Get a gun. Abuse your girlfriend. Paranoia. They're after my motherfucking brains. Killed everyone, but I;'m feeling better! Mood swings. Eventually you just go insane and don't care about anything but drugs. Fuck you, it all goes away. |

| It seems that, like many songs from SOAD, that the lyrics are not criticising the actual religion but the corruption and hypocracy present when religion is used to close people's minds rather than open. One of SOAD's messages is to open you mind, Why would they criticize devotion to Christian beleifs? They are speaking out agianst people who feel that they are toally right and that their religion gives them reason to feel superior or more pure than others. "Everyone needs a mothfucker" Religion can be used to find someone to blame. Someone that can be wrong so that the religion is "right". Serj seems to be saying "fuck that, religion can't control me, i won't let myself be taken advantage for my faith in what im told to think" I do see the connection between rape and religion. When the church uses its followers, takes something from their souls and uses it for their own benefit "Die for her philosophy" not your own. | |
