The song "I Cut My Teeth" is by a group called The VSS, they're on odd post-punk sort of band. Members of the band The Locust are in it. The leader singer (screamer) of the locust owns GSL, which is the label tremulant EP was on, coincidence? I think not. |

I'm takin a crack at this song, which is by the way, awesome. "As I layed and died The things I think Did I waste my time? I think I did I worked for life" I think he's talking about a person on their death bed having regrets about his life. A person who worked his entire life to provide material things for his family eg. "Pretty little home" But he's realizing he should have spent more time with his family and should have been there emotionally for them. "Like a father's dream Have a cut out son Was the worst disease You get that pretty little home" I cant imagine one person on their death bed saying "i wish i had made just $100 dollars more" I can imagine saying "I wish I had spent more time with my son"

the word prodigal is an allusion to the story of the prodigal son in the bible, where the son leaves and squanders his inheiritance but then returns to his father and changes his life. To me this has been a song about keeping a close relatioinship with family...just a thought |
