I think I'm going to run against traffic here and actually discuss lyrics here...but for what the song is, its got some pretty powerful lyrics. Lyrics don't need to be obscure and full of hidden meanings to be great, and I think this song's best quality is the fluidity of the lyrics (if i can even say that) and how it can be applied to everyday life, and many people can relate to it. It may not be THE most profound group of words, but what is? Some of the best poems of all time are mainly because of how many people feel that there's something personal there, something to relate to, something of their own lives hidden between the spaces and punctuation.
Unfortunately to some, when something is powerful/moving/easy to relate to, itll get popular. But it shouldn't stop people from feeling the music, again, if I can say something as hallmark of that.
I think I'd be more afraid if people thought the lyrics to CATS (the broadway musical) were THE best thing since Kathy Lee Gifford getting kicked off of her show.
But ahh....what to do about Regis now? |

Who really cares? It's just a band, and this site was really meant for discussing the lyrics. *Shakes my fist* What do you expect, this band to be playing to each of you personally, like some bizarre jester, or slave? If you've always liked the band, then keep on being this great fan.
The song isnt phenomenal, but it makes for good singing along to. |

I absolutely love this song, it's perfect in everyway, and it gets points for mentioning bananafish- Nine Stories by JD Salinger reference. It couldve even been a crappy song, but if it mentions bananafish it gets points from me. Carpe diem, baby. |

lol...I think I'm the only one who isn't "in love" with Brandon Boyd, and thats just fine. He might be nice, who knows. As far as I know, he's just a great voice with good song writing skills.
Anyway, being that I loved S.C.I.E.N.C.E, I thought it was a bit shocking that Incubus went into another more mellow direction, but I do like the music just the same now. I like this song because its got a certain inexplicable atmospheric quality, which is rare. |

Good, catchy song, and goldfinger sounds nothing like The Get Up Kids in my opinion. |

I'm surprised no one has commented on this; this is one of green day's greatest in my opinion. Of course, I can't speak for anyone, but to me it always means that dissatisfaction with life, that numbingly boring dull suburbia, and the desire for something more exciting, an escape (in the song its pretty obvious what it is). You end up wrapped up in your escape and find it hard to leave. I have no idea why, but it makes me think of a 17 year old, no one in particular, but a 17 year old in that scenario. |

Yeah, the point of the song is known, and i thought it was always very touching. I love its (a phrase i throw around alot, but its true) introspective qualities, it really makes you assess the whole point of your life, and how life is short, and you know what you should be doing, what the right thing is, but youre too young to accept it, too young to accept your own mortality. Pretty heavy. Great song though.
Angus was a great movie too. |

Ha, little did I know how much this song would mean, once I found out the guy I used to date liked to cross dress when he was by himself. You would've never guessed it, until I caught him trying to steal my tank tops. Then he told me. Shortly broke up. So now this song is even funnier to me. |

Even though I'm a massive Kevin Smith fan, I just recently found out that parts of Clerks was filmed right in the comic book place next to my house. I used to go there all the time too. Small world...
Back on topic, this is a cutesy-poo song. Yes it is. |

This is my favorite song, everything is right here from the music to the lyrics...I have no idea why, but it makes me think of fall. I feel the need to wear sweaters and admire the foilage....not really, but maybe its because fall is always one of those "transitional" periods, and theres always someone you miss, because you go to different universities, different jobs, etc. |

An ode to those little superficial "relationships" that everyone seems to go through, or crushes, or what have you. You're single for a while, meet someone, want to jump their bones, but stop yourself from doing that because you foresee the consequences, and don't feel like dealing with it. So you go home and masturbate. Nothing wrong there, but it is a pain in the bum. Add in some little moral about how easy it is to lump people together, etc. Love this song. |

I posted a similar comment for "My Name is Jonas", but I absolutely adore this song and especially the lyrics...its that whole realization of "Hey I'm old" when you have a moment where you realize how much your life has changed, and the people around you have grown up (or haven't in some cases), how time is fluid and essentially flies by. Where has it all gone? And just exactly where am I? Its that whole introspective quality of this song, and this album, that makes me love it so.

I think I'm the only one who wasn't a fan of Rachel stepping in for vocals...I love the lyrics and the music, but she just didn't do it for me I guess. The instrumentals are weezer, but with Rivers's voice not at the forefront, it just doesn't feel right...
She doesn't do a bad job, but it just doesn't feel right. Kind of like generic peanut butter (?). |

I've read The Giver- it wildly disturbed me back in 7th grade. Oh those childhood memories.
This is a great song, I can't speak for anyone, but I tend to associate this as a coming of age/realization of just how old you are and how much life has changed for you and everyone else. Haven't we all had those moments when you just stop and realize that "hey, I'm old", even if youre still technically young....obscure thought.
But anyway, its a great atmospheric song. |

heh heh....even though I'm a die-hard, pinkerton loving person, I can't help but belt this one out when in my car (that oh so luxurious 1985 skyhawk that I own). On a deeper note, the lyrics seem to evoke maybe a fantasy life, this elusive, confident alpha male that many people think themselves as, or maybe could just be a negative self reflection wrapped up in a catchy tune. Who knows. But if you find yourself in a 1985 skyhawk, belt it out. |
