i think the title captures the whole song; it is the fine art of falling apart. "i walk alone and i ride alone" Matt Good's aneuristic lyricsm always provides an insight and from these lines, the loneliness of the world when everything starts falling apart is captured here. "There ain't enough room in this world/For people like you/And horrors like me" The justification of giving up he offers hits too close to home; we're falling apart and "looking to blame somebody" so we don't die for nothing. Everyone just wants to remembered. "I'm certain of it" Ever felt everything collapse? There's so much unknown. But if you're certain of it, you're that much closer to fixing yourself. |

i think this song is pretty straightforward underneath the metaphors. "warm machine" - human being "i memorize the basics" - learning how to live, learning how to be a human "making strange faces - 1000 miles to go " - complaining about life because there is so much left to live of it.. "this is the night, this is the sound" - the night and sound of death "gravitate spacewards" - gravity opposes the movement into space.. similarly an ending opposes movement of motion.. |

confuses the hell out of me too. "cold contagious" - we all start thinking of the slang word for "cold" i.e. a virus infecting our bodies. i think he means the actual coldness ("darkness of your faith", "reality daytrips" - hyperventilating i.e dieing) "you will get yours" - since feeling cold is a sense, all the "mighty mighty men" don't seem to feel anything... they want to be invincible but its futile coz they will get it in the end any other views?? |

i agree with ashley!! BUSH NEEDS MORE COMMENTS!! i signed up solely to give my views on the complete fucking genius songs!! this song, like most of bush stuff, is so metaphorically involved that it would be impossible to give one "correct" meaning. its definately about those silent times with a lover.. but it goes deeper.. "satelites come and go" - satelites of pain, the realisation comes and goes "i'm an alien, you're an alien" - meant to be together - 2 people "beautiful rain" - beautiful feeling/realisation "second blonde child" - a contrast from the fact that thay're both aliens.. also - a child is born every 1/4 of a second.. there's 4 main hair colours.. therefore a blonde child is born every second.. "blonde" is considered beautiful - aryans! everyone else is beautiful and "feels like velvet" whereas we're "aliens".. just my views!! |
