Superchunk – Digging For Something Lyrics 15 years ago
I think "Old 86" is a reference to the road/highway that runs out of Chapel Hill towards Chatham County? I had forgotten about this band until I saw them play this song on Late Night.

Ben Folds Five – Kate Lyrics 16 years ago
Rosemary and Cameron are streets on Chapel Hill campus. They don't actually intersect.

Wilco – Radio Cure Lyrics 18 years ago
I think I agree most with MaxpowerSupreme on this one. The title and lyrics support a notion that whatever songs we listen to are our "radio cures", particularly the salient lines that get stuck in our heads. what is really pretty cool (almost ironic) about this song is that the singer hits you with such a line of his own, "distance has no way of making love understandable"--is the line that listeners connect to the most, possibly making it their own "radio cure".

Ben Folds Five – Kate Lyrics 18 years ago
Ben Folds was quoted in an interview as saying that he wanted to write a song as "the great pop song of his generation" and that's what "Kate" was suppose to be. It doesn't have any real deep meaning other than it is probably Ben's purest attempt at pop. And yes, the Rosemary and Cameron name drops are pretty cool.

Death Cab for Cutie – Champagne from a Paper Cup Lyrics 19 years ago
all the interpretations on this are interesting, but the setting is evident--a new year's party. which of course is the most obvious place to find champagne, and at "half past two" is has long been time to leave.

Jason Collett – Almost Summer Lyrics 19 years ago
lousyveil's lyrics are dead on. i love every verse of this song. it does a great job of showing a scene. its bittersweet and homey. honestly, one of my favorites. ever.

Ben Folds Five – Silver Street Lyrics 19 years ago
i retract my previous comment, folds actually grew up off polo rd. in winston. no doubt the song is probably still about buena vista ro some place like it...

Jump, Little Children – Pink Lemonade Lyrics 20 years ago
at a recent concert at ziggy's in winston salem (lead singers hometown) he said it was about him skipping class in high school.

Ben Folds Five – Silver Street Lyrics 20 years ago
i think this song might be about the neighborhood folds grew up in, buena vista, one of the nicer places in town. the song has this 'things are rough all over' message, and there is kind of a parallel between the pain of growing up and changing emotionally while seeing things change around you physically.

Jason Mraz – Bright Eyes Lyrics 20 years ago
one of his most sincere songs and the first verse is just amazing, possibly my favorite song of his. i like the parallels too: "grow more into a man/and i let her grow away from me" & "days we spent in miles/i let here drive away from me". one of those songs that if you associate with someone, it will stick with you forever.

Matt Nathanson – Weight of It All Lyrics 21 years ago
that is just a great chorus "i'll show you where the rain gets in and i'll show you hurricanes". its good stuff.

Dispatch – The General Lyrics 21 years ago
this song definitely has a reference to JC. "go now, you are forgiven" is a classic benidiction line used by pastors. and the symbolism makes sense. ppl that say your reading into it too much are wrong, and the ppl that go too literal like, "he did when he was 33, i don't think thats OLD" are even more ridiculous. think about it, if you wanted to write a symbolistic song about any person, you don't get too specific, because that takes away the symbolism, and you don't get too broad because it takes away purpose. think about it.

Jimmy Eat World – Blister Lyrics 22 years ago
this song is deffinately about two friends and one always betrays the other. finally, the other friend has had enough "my minds made up, i'm never comen back here", but its tough to leave b/c they were so close and he knows he will be lonely, hince the whole "how long would it take me...."

Jimmy Eat World – Your New Aesthetic Lyrics 22 years ago
its sad how exploited JEW's genre of music has become (call it emo, punk, whatever). the bands that suck (good charlotte and simple plan) are getting tons of air play with their whiney singers and cheesy lyrics while the great ones are being left out. and for all of you that say JEW have become what they were singing about your wrong, they're actually doing what they say they want to do in the song: they say "take back the radio" not that radio will always suck but rather "lets make it better", they didnt sell out, they were just tryin to do their part in makin radio better.

Dashboard Confessional – Shirts And Gloves Lyrics 22 years ago
sometimes you need a dashboard song that has story teling lyrics (so impossible), sometimes you need an emotional song (places you've come...), sometimes you need the deep lyrcs (ender will save...), but other times there are the songs that dont really fall into those category. the lyrics are good, but not significant, and the song is just kind of mellow and harmonic (anyone, anyone comes to mind), but this is one of those songs and i love it. its great just to chill to and its one of my favorites by DBC.

Guster – So Long Lyrics 23 years ago
this ie of the best songs i've ever heard. as far as meaning i thinkhe was in a fragile relationship w/ someone and it broke. he feels bad about it, but he knows he will do it again.
(But in my defense
I'd do it again
I don't need to know who you are ).

Run-DMC – It's Tricky Lyrics 23 years ago

rthis song is great. the song is an anthem; the kind of songs that face to face are notorious for. the first two verses are perticularly good.

Alkaline Trio – Another Innocent Girl Lyrics 23 years ago
i love this song. the vocals totally grabbed at my heart. as for meaning loserdork up there pretty much nailed it. i love the lines:
"He likes to pretend that he is all sewn up
It makes for a much stronger case
But there is blood underneath that skin
That scar is not so easy to erase"

he's tryin to fool everyone, including himself and forget the past. pretty relatable.

Lagwagon – Choke Lyrics 23 years ago
this was the first lagwagon song i ever heard. kind of slow, and dark, but somehow...beautiful i guess at the same time. it has a very distinct emotion to it that can't really be described. and yea, stupid girls suck.

submissions
Lagwagon – Coffee and Cigarettes Lyrics 23 years ago
this song is wonderful. a slight change of pace for the lagwagoners. the guitar riff is pretty cool and the lyrics are ofcourse great in a way that only lagwagon could do it. "im getting use to getting old, but wheres my ambition" "the words you can't hear, impact, the words i can't write". its punk, and its great.

submissions
Lagwagon – Bombs Away Lyrics 23 years ago
this is a great lagwagon song. its a very good representation of their sound i think. the lyrics are good, classic punk lyrics. the beggining of the song is really cool when the words come in. i saw these guys live at the warped tour, they were good but didnt play this song (they did play violins though). this is a good song, brings back memories...

The Get Up Kids – Valentine Lyrics 23 years ago
this song eats at my heart, its emo...but very good. the first three lines are fantastic, and even lyrics like 'constants arent so constant anymore' are beautiful in their simplicity. its oviously about questioning someone's love for you, or pointing out love thats fading. "the words you forget to anniversary songs..."

The Get Up Kids – I'm a Loner Dottie, a Rebel Lyrics 23 years ago
this was the first get up kids song i ever heard, and i dont think i have found another one yet (except maybe 'valentine') that has left such a vivid image in my head. the style and placement and the lyrics themselves is just awesome. i love this song dude.
