The main reason I don't like this song is it makes Korn sound hypocritical. How many Korn songs are there about insulting and teasing and the negative effects... and that's all this song is... |

joshtack, Lotuses are flowers that well, make you feel very peaceful and happy, and of course they're extremely addicting. Lotuses are very prevalent in mythology and are used to symbolize any kind of drug. And well, this is an experience with drugs. |

I just wrote a paper on Brave New Word as well, and I understand what you're saying, Bizarre, but I don't think Opiate was written with the book in mind. Just about your everyday preachers and religion. |

I agree with you Captain Obvious. As far as the last stanza goes:
"The ground is breaking down right under me. Cleanse and purge me
in the water."
Like you said, the ground, faith, is crumbling beneath him. Water, like in the song Ænema, is supposed to wash away his beliefs, and cleanse him of his predispositions. |

| Tool – Reflection Lyrics

Maynard has said that he believes information is pure, and people merely reflect it in different ways. Something you know is not your own knowledge, simply a truth that you are aware of, that you might reflect onto someone else. A person taking credit for their knowledge of something would be like the moon taking credit for the light it shines, even though it's the sun's light, not it's own. "The moon tells me a secret, my confidant
As full and bright as I am, this light is not my own and
A million light reflections pass over me. " The light(information) is not our own, it's simply something for us to pass on, and to realize this we must "crucify our egos." "Just let the light touch you and let the words spill through Just let them pass right through, bringin' out our hope and reason" is saying that if we all except information and knowledge(light) as truth, not our own, and let it pass through us(learn, teach) we can really understand the world and bring out our hope and reason. I'd say I'm 99% sure this is what is meant by the song. Maynard has said a lot of this in interviews he's given.

Well, this isn't really all that important, but the song is spelled "Faaip De Oaid". Just in case someone cares :-) |

The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory, but the song itself is just perfect. Eerie and powerful, and emotional. Best song on the album IMHO. Well, Headstrong's pretty good. I'll call it a tie. |

Get rid of the stray comments? No way! I come to these forums for the arguments as much as I come to talk about the songs' meanings :-) It's funny if you just read what people say about each other. Like a human behavior experiment. Oh, and great song. ^_^ |

Athiests have some of the highest moral standards out of anyone, Harry Manback. What you're saying is just completely untrue. I'm agnostic myself. Read this:
"Your petitioners are Atheists, and they define their lifestyle as follows. An Atheist loves himself and his fellow man instead of a god. An Atheist accepts that heaven is something for which we should work now here on earth for all men together to enjoy. An Atheist accepts that he can get no help through prayer, but that he must find in himself the inner conviction and strength to meet life, to grapple with it, to subdue it and to enjoy it. An Atheist accepts that only in a knowledge of himself and a knowledge of his fellow man can he find the understanding that will help
to a life of fulfillment." -Madaline Murray O'Hair
that's what a true atheist believes. All others are as you described, but you're ignorant in assuming that you have to belong to a religion if you have morals. |

oh, and Maynard has mentioned on more than one occasion that he chose the colors black, white, red, and yellow because they were the colors used to describe the aboriginal stories of creation. Or he could just be bullshitting us. Reality is he way we perceive it I guess, choose your interpretation. |

There's some funny stuff here. Nobody's really wrong, but it's good to see people with active imaginations. Since I didn't see it mentioned specifically, I'll just toss in my little tidbit here. The spiral mentioned in the song refers to the spiral resulting from the fibonacci sequence. This sequence of numbers is present in all different forms of life, especially plants. Another spiral, the golden mean spiral, is part of sacred geometry, and is considered perfect. As the spirals progress they come very close to being the same spiral, and some people think this is no coincidence. Life is constantly trying to become greater, to become perfect. So if we "ride the spiral to the end" the spirals may become one and we may just become perfect, or become greater than we can imagine. In short, we, as humans, may very well be capable of doing anything. Keep going.
I don't think this is a case of over-analyzing, as it's mentioned specifically by the band here and there. |

I agree completely with what madson said, as that was what I understood it to mean. And for those of you who said "oh, Maynard already said what it meant, end of story" you're wrong, but it's not your fault. Maynard is almost never open about his song's meanings. He once said "Stinkfist" was about a "friend he knew who liked to get his hands dirty and stuff". And it had nothing to do with fisting or "what became of subtlety". Do you believe him there too? Yes, the H. refers to Maynard's son Devo H. Keenan. |

One problem with Americans(and yes, I'm one of them) is they come from too many different backgrounds and too many beliefs. I'm sick of all these Jingoistic ultra-patriots screaming freedom when they have no idea what they're talking about. But to everyone out there, please don't group all americans into the dumbass group, or a lot of us are going to have to move to a different country :-) Yes, the song is in German. It's a recipe for Russian Tea Cakes. And it's funny. Enough said.
p.s. Most americans think George W. Bush is an idiot too. He didn't even get the majority of votes, the sneaky bastard. Our stupid electoral college has backfired, instead of preventing people who know nothing from voting for anyone, it ended up putting a complete fool in office. But don't blame us citizens, it was the government's fault. :-) |

| Metallica – The Thing That Should Not Be Lyrics

The song isn't as inspiring, or as technically impressive as the other songs on Master of Puppets, but the atmosphere more than makes up for it. This song will be 10X better if you read "The Call of Cthulu" by H.P. Lovecraft. The song itself sounds like it's going insane, and the repetitive nature of the song is meant to be oppressive and maddening. This song is just way too heavy for some people, and those are the people that don't like it. Definitely one of the heaviest(in the truest sense of the word) metal songs ever recorded. |

This song is beautiful and then powerful; it starts of sedate, but boils into a rage. It's amazing how much feeling they can convey in the music alone, very few songs these days have music that helps you feel the way someone thinking the lyrics would feel. Technically perfect, and very emotional at the same time. A hard thing to do. |

Well, yes, "Get Away" sounds almost exactly like Tool, and Wil does sound like Maynard, but the rest of the album sounds very little like Tool. Some of the songs on the album are a little boring and repetitive, but for a first time effort it is great. I hope they improve so that we can look forward to their next album. |
