Who gives a shit about New York hockey teams??? I certainly don't. The story that I heard about why this is played in Fenway goes like this: the music/sound system director at Fenway has a daughter named Caroline and on her birthday a few years ago, he decided to play the song in the middle of the 8th. He got such a large, unexpected reaction from the crowd that he played it again the next night. And when the crowd continued to sing along every night, they started putting the lyrics up on the jumbotron, and they've done it that way every home game since. Millions of citizens of Red Sox Nation recognize this as a Red Sox song, and personally, I think it's the only Neil Diamond song where it is acceptable to sing along. |

This song means that although we have freedom of speech, if the government or the media (the two are often linked) doesn't like what we say, they have the power bend it into something else. People believe what the media tells them. The media, instead of just reporting a story, for instance, reports the story, and puts a slant on it in favor one side. This happens all the time, and this song says a lot about how things like this happen. |

Slipknot is just some generic, dime-a-dozen band that is "angry at the world". Try some originality. Metallica was a ground-breaking band that brought metal to the mainstream. There is no way that any band in the same genre is remotely as great or influencial as Metallica, including today's heavy metal bands. |
