I love this song, mainly because the idea behind of being "in disguise" is a constant in my own life. Wanting to desperately get rid of the facade you're hiding behind, but not having the courage to do so.
"I'm okay, I really am now... Not telling lies, I'll be honest with you" is her way of telling the person confronting her that she's okay. Desperately trying to convince them. And, perhaps herself too. |

Hey pollock, I don't know if the song is entirely about the homeless' dreams of paradise, but as being more of a song about the way people can turn a blind eye to what they don't want to see. The way people can be callous towards others, and Collins' lack of faith in the ability for people to change. It's why he's asking god for guidance; because while he sees the world's problems, and faces them head on, others do not, and feels the only way things can change is through some sort of divine intervention:

When I first got "emotions" i never really listened to this song. I usually had the first track on number 1 on repeat. XD What can I say? I was 8. A couple of years down the road, I can say that I'm glad I finally listened to this song, and wished that I had earlier. It's a great song. I love her vocals on it. |

Wow... Skankin' Lou, you make a great point, if we were all true punks we wouldn't care about music we listen to. I agree whole-heartedly. (sp?) But to say keep your opinions to yourself... Isn't the entire point of this website to say what you like /and/ dislike about artists and their songs? It doesn't seem like anyone is pressing their views on anyone except you and thetoewiggler... I apologize to you if I've taken your comment out of context, that's just what it seems like.
To toe wiggler though, it seems as if you need finish reading all of the posts. Your entire rant is completely out of place. Nobody said that they didn't like them now that they've "sold out". And all I said was that I liked them still, I just hoped that their music won't change.

Whoa dude, I never said they didn't make great music. I think they're a great band. And i'm still a huge fan. And, the thing is, I just don't want their music to change. I mean, lets say they don't get played on TRL or whatever they're aiming for in this. So, they change their music so more people would like them. That's selling out. So, I apologize for calling them sell-outs, I just don't want it to happen. No matter what label you're on, MTV seems to do that. |

This is such a sad song. Everytime I hear It, I think about a homosexual relationship. Or someone who gets picked on. There is so many close minded people out there it's disgusting. Town Without Pity may not have intentionally meant for it to be, but it's fits quite well into a "forbidden" love scenario, and how people can be cruel. It's really a great song. |

Well, for one, bands should never want to play for the money. That would mean they were "selling out". And having more money does not necessarily mean that they going to make better music. The Distillers already had a large fan base, so, playing for the publicity would be stupid.
And yes, I agree, a good band on MTV would be nice, but, the music industry is known for mangling,distorting, and destroying good music, and that's all we need to worry about. The amount of records they sell should never be as important as the music they make. |

To Skankinrudegirl101, I agree with you. The Distillers sold out. I was seriously crushed when I was told they were on MTV by my friend. (I no longer watch MTV)
As for this song, I really hate it. I think it's one of their worst songs but I'm not saying I hate them, because, they are still one of my favorite bands.
This song really isn't their greatest. They could have done better.
As for the whole "selling out" thing. I am mad, but, as long as they don't change their music, it's okay... I suppose.

While I do enjoy this song, I mean Tim Armstrong is the greatest, but, from what I've heard, they don't want Box Car Racer to get as much air play as Blink would, but does anyone notice how much MTV is playing their single? "I Feel so.." is what i think it is. I don't think, how ever much they try, Box Car Racer is going to get played less (which I think is what they want) than Blink. I mean they are already on TRL (hate that show; hate MTV). I've heard their CD and it's songs are a lot darker than any of Blink's but, they all have chances to get big, and I think MTV is just going to eat it up. What do you all think? |

Thanks for clarifying Abba. And I can agree with the fact that almost all mainstream pop-stars wont dress like her.
But I mean, So? Dressing like the part is way different than acting. Punk to me is a lot about the music, but it's got this mind-state. DIY, politics, music, and attitude all contribute. And, I guess, I just don't see how she could fit any of these things. But, whatever, you can call her punk if you want, cause we all see punk differently I guess. You can't help what you are.

I don't want to sound like a stick-in-the-mud but, Avril is NOT punkrock. She's not even rock. She's like....pop with an edge. I can admit, I enjoy some of her songs, and I definatly appreciate the fact that she writes her own music (i think). The last thing we need is another pop-star. But, you can't seriously think this music is punk rock. Avril as an individual can be whatever. Cause, I don't know her. I could care less what she is. But, please don't say her music is punk rock. It's just...not. Ill back up my opinions if you all want me to. I'm just speaking my mind. |
