im with shadowwiththeeyes on this one, this song isnt really about modern satanism like some of the other stuff DB does (like progenies of the great apocalypse). Its just an old balls-to-the-wall rebellious song. They were probably just celebrating black metal's history or whatever, tossing in something that people new to the genre might never have heard of. Anyway, it seems that even older, more mindless black metal has served its ultimate purpose: upsetting christians. Bathory wrote an awsome song, Dimmu Borgir played that awsome song. I love it! great song, goofy video, but i guess ive come to expect that of black metal, oh well lol, black metal can still beat the shit outta other music. Yeah, definately a lot of modern Satanic influence here, pretty much every line after Vortex's vocal bit is ripped from modern satanism (I say modern instead of LaVeyan just because the "Hunt the bastards down" part brings to mind the order of the nine angels more than the COS, a little more extreme form of satanism than LaVey's, ...but then again, killing and death in black metal killing and death are never really considered that extreme within black metal, hehe) I liked the instrumental version (the classical one on the 2nd disk) as well, although eradication instincts's was better imo |

hmmmm... this one's a little weird, but I think its about Jesus, from the viewpoint of an atheist. He's talking about how jesus came supposedly to save everyone, but really just made life harder for everyone who doesnt beleive in god, and also contributed to the creation of a religion that has arguably one of the most violent, brutal, and intolerant histories in the world. I'ts also about how if Jesus was so good and wanted to help mankind so much, why didn't he just keep his mouth shut? He could easily have seen how brutal humanity was and prevented a lot of death (including his own). |

Then there's the whole "bad things slither" part. Idk... the song just speaks to me that way, it seems to be about Being about to be totally fucked up, and being able to see it coming, and not beiong able to do anything about it. im sorry, where are people getting the rapture thing? The only place i see that in this song is in "We all got left behind." I guess it's valid, but unless someone from slipknot said it was about the rapture (i have no fucking clue), then im just gonna have to ask you to explain. I'm leaning toward the idea that its about how so many people get sucked into something ("I come toward you" is the victim being drawn in, and its not "contort", it's "come toward") they feel is wrong, get screwed, and then whoever took advantage of them just leaves them behind to rot. The whole calcification thing also: when somone's cartilage (sp?) gets damaged, it gets all fluidy and such (i'm so technical...), and then if it calcifies, it is stuck like that forever. I think this speaks a lot to what i just said. As far as being wrapped in glass and slowly soaked in lime is concerned, the only thing i got from that is someone being soaked in concrete (which is made from lime). Concrete does what? Like the calcification, they are really playing the "eternally stuck in a state of fucked-uppedness" metaphor as hard as they can. I still don't get the song, just pieces, but I really like it. Especially the guitar riff used for the intro. Once again, someone please explain to me how the rapture relates to this song. I'm really not seeing it. |

hmmm... to me, this song is about all the ways people use to ventilate their emotions. "I found the easy way to die Just educate myself and pretend All I've learned's untrue And yeah, I know that All I'll lose is you" this is the only part that lost me, but i think i get it. A person masturbates to get sexual gratification without actually fucking. I think that this little bit right here means a lot. Murder is a form of masturbation for someone with suicidal urges. It allows them to relieve the pain without actually killing themself. "It always cures the pain that would never leave Then causes even more It just screams out loud But never goes away!" this part is about how all the different forms of "masturbation" ppl use to relive themselves don't really help, but only cause more pain. the whole being "not alright but ok" thing really shows this |

Goddamn, the southern babtists were right for once, Slipknot is bringing about Armageddon. O well, i guess theres nothing anyone can do to avoid it, what with the big freedom of speech argument, but this whole thread has gotten incredibly nasty. This isnt something u can argue about, its all opinions, and the point of the song is NOT TO CARE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK. My opinon: Slipknot is not incredibly talented, I personally dont care, Neither are rappers, but the people that listen to them like them because they like that type of music. I'm not into the whole being stuck on (insert random genre here) genre thing, limiting yourself, but you like what you like. Hell, classical musicians are a hell of a lot more talented than most punk, rock, whatever bands, or any other music that the slipknot haters here listen to, but that doesnt mean u guys care, cause you probly dont like classical music, (no offense to anyone that does, I do too). People dont care about TALENT these days as much as they used to, at least not in a technical musical sense. People who are drawn to numetal dont like it for the talent, cuz like i said, its not really a great collection of it, its because thats what they like. also, im sure i will get some just for giving someone the idea, but I really dont need the "FUCK OFF!"s, or "yea, u tell 'em!"s, I dont want to take a side, I would just like to try to inspire intelligent disagreement. Slip66knot666, a lot of the people here AREN'T saying there opinions, they are trying to convince people that like slipknot that slipknot sucks, you SHOULD be angry about that. Wow, i feel like kind of an extra party speaking up here. I like Slipknot a lot, i love the lyrics and the music, but i dont know much else about them because i dont feel its important. I thnk looking into any artist too much distracts people from what they are trying to say. I think thats where all the posers come from. THis song sort of reminds me of Dig by Mudvayne. I thnk it is about how when people shit on u for being different or "wrong", u just have to realize that they cant make that decsision, and anyone who wants to try is inferior themselves. Slipknot seems to be saying that u shouldnt care what anyone thinks of u (i sure dont) and that if someone hates u for who u are, theres no reason to care at all. NO ONE can change those who are truly unique and live the way they want, because who would ever want to lower themselves? the only people that do that started off losers in life to begin with. I can understand how people think Slipknot are satanic and shit. I am a satanist, and when i first heard slipknot they seemed very satanic to me. I didn't really think they were actual stanists, but I feel that they MAY at least support some of the ideas. I dont know... And as for the people that come here to complain- you are worthless to the world! If you want to at least try to make someone feel bad, go find Slipknot and dis them yurself, i doubt they are here on this page, but this page IS full of people who enjoy listening to the music. No one here cares that u hate slipknot, because we dont. | I think this song has some connection to Nick Bantock's books. If anyone has ever taken the time to read these and has any idea what I speak of, speak up. And if you haven't read them you should. It's about a long term relationship between two people who have never met, and its really freaky. I sort of see that in this song, and besides, I recognize a lot of the lines in this song from the books (especially the one called the Golden Mean). I dont mean to say that Nick or Daryl have copied each other, I hope they aren't, cause there both great writers, just thought I'd bring this up, cause its been buggin the crap out of me and I actually joined this site to see if I was the only one in the world that noticed this.
