To me, this song has always been about a boy who was secretly in love with another boy. Unfortunately for the one who's in love, it is unrequited because the other guy is straight. In the beginning of the song, he is imagining his dream guy and wondering if he's really seen him before. In his mind, he knows exactly how everything is going to pan out. Later on in the song, the other guy seems to actually be real. The boy who is in love is not far from being a stalker. As a matter of fact, he probably is. The other boy has moved away, changed his number, and has a new life. I imagine at some point, the boy in love made his move and it wasn't taken too well from the other. Whether or not this was the cause of the other guy moving is unknown. However, we know enough to understand that the straight guy didn't deem it necessary to inform him of his new whereabouts or his new number.
In the end, the gay boy remains in love yet alone. He stays in the place he knows, wondering what happened to his boy. It's very sad to me. This is one of the saddest songs I know. |

when i first heard this song... i thought it was the most terrible thing... to say you wouldn't care if someone dies... because they did you wrong... and at the end of the song to WISH that they would die! that's crazy! but you know... you CAN have those emotions... and surprisingly, it has become one of the songs i've played the most this and last year...

This is my new favorite song of all time. "Are You That Somebody" was my other favorite song for four years. I love Aaliyah so much, it just hurts that she's not here physically anymore. But I kno wshe's in ym heart. I will always love her.
Even though I'm a guy, this is my favorite song because Aaliyah is talking about how she'll be More Than Woman for a special, special guy (has to be special if Aaliyah loves him!). I love this song, and I love this woman. You people are wrong for saying that mess about my Babygirl. I don't have the strength to argue with little people who have nothing better to do than to bash artist just because they're upset their choice in music doesn't get as much attention. It's petty. She is very beautiful, very talented, and she will always be missed, so why even bother saying stuff like that about her. You're just vile.
