Great song. This is the only song on the cd that I didn't have to get used to because it sounded more "Metallica" like to me with the pace and then the rhythm at the chorus. But the whole cd grows on you and they isn't actually a bad song on it. better_than_you, I think you're right on it. Everyone has an unnamed feeling for whatever reason it may be. Whether it's anger, hurt, pride, love or whatever. We all have been through situations in which we feel something building inside of us. He recognizes the unnamed feeling building in him and gets fed up with everything and wants the be by himself, work through it and then move on. Anywho...very kick ass song!! |

Maybe it's just me but I think this song is about someone's search for a hero. I think it's about someone searching for their hero and along the way they're being let down and disappointed because they can't find the hero they are looking for and they never realize the the "heroes" they need are the one's that are around them....not some anonymous strangers. They're friends, family, etc.... I think the keepers of the flames are the one's left behind while this person is searching. But the song goes on the explain that "still the window burns, time so slowly turns...someone there is sighing". I think this pretty much sums the songe up for me in that...your loved one's are the real heroes because they wait on you....they have the light that will lead you back home if you'll only realize it and follow it. In other words instead of searching for heroes take inventory on the heroes around you instead of taking them for granted. That's what I think guys...fell free to tear this one to pieces..... |

I agree with all of you...it's a kick ass song. Like Boonechic_21 said that song was written when tensions were high and they were doing drugs. But the lyrics were directed at Joe Perry's first wife. Steven Tyler was tired of here being around the band all of the time and he thought that she was breaking the band up by seperating Joe from the rest of the band. So I guess this was his was of telling her that her shit does stink no matter what she may think. All that being said I think the first part of the song he is talking to Joe's wife pretty much telling her that she's nothing but a groupy especially him talking about screwing her backstage. I think kinda indirectly too that he is trying to tell Joe that his wife is nothing but trash so he should dump her....either way I don't think she was very well though of....but that's my 2 cents. |

This song, to me, is her talking about a relationship she was in that the guy was pretty much never there physically or mentally. He's never there for her so why should she care about him?.....in a nutshell. I'm curious to know why some of you think she's talking about a friend? Not that I disagree....but just curious... |

to me this song is like everyone else has said. it's about loving someone and them not loving you. i think he's speaking to this person through the song and telling them that he's pissed off at them for how he was treating. he's saying that he poured his heart out to this person and they were to preoccupied with their own problems to even give him the time of day. "i threw you the obvious and you flew with it on your back" is to me saying i told you how i felt about you and you either didn't know how to deal with it or just ignored it. but i think he shows his resentment because basically he's saying that i took the time to dig into you and see what you were about, even though i knew i would get hurt, but you never took the time to see me. you don't see me at all and even though i know you've been hurt before and are scarred from that i can't believe you never even took the time to understand me or to listen to my feelings for you. then at the end, as a result of his being rejected, he's like "oh well" i guess there wasn't as much behind those eyes as i thought there was. but i still think the whole song in a nut shell is just about him pouring his heart out and the person not even acknowlodging that and he's pissed, confused and generally just doesn't understand how someone could do that to someone else especially since he took the time to really get to know this person.
OH WELL....
That's what I think anyway...
Just wanted to let you guy's know that I enjoyed ready every one of the responses......if nothing else we can all say that Maynard makes us think about all of his songs. |
