I think part of this song is describing some kind of post-apocalyptic scene, in which the east coast has been torched. But then the singer is mentioning some chick he can never think of again. Perhaps some nuclear warfare or WWIII is the only thing that will get her off his mind. |

Eric Bachmann told me that the sampled sound in the beginning and middle was a drunken recreation of an actual phone call he had made to management (or Alias or something) on the Vee Vee tour. The band was struggling and mulling over the idea of a breakup. He heard his own message later, found it amusing, and they recreated it in the studio with Brian Paulson (who found the actual answering machine message too "clean" sounding).
Regardless, this has to be my favorite Archers song, ever. Just gorgeous, shimmering guitars and a great melody. |

I think Eric Bachmann was probably in some trendy bar, surrounded by emo-kids with Spock haircuts and tight shirts, and penned this song out of disgust. Fashion defines the scene in a lot of cases. And that is sad. |

This song is often confused as a "take this job and shove it" tribute. However, I've heard Jim Wilbur say that it was directed towards a lazy coworker, not a boss, per se. Regardless, a great insult-song that I am sure most of us would find useful application for. |
