Jeff Buckley – You and I Lyrics
|
i'd probably put this in my top 3 favourite jeff songs. maybe i'm just seeing something that isn't there, but to me this song's about a guy who has been in love with a girl for a long time and she hasn't been ready to commit to him. i think it's like he's trying to tell her that everything will be ok. again, maybe that's just me. i love it anyway. jeff's voice is at it's best here |

Jeff Buckley – I Want Someone Badly Lyrics

Bright Eyes – Laura Laurent Lyrics
|
I'd probably say that this was my favourite bright eyes song. the words and the way they're sung just totally grab me, right from the first line. "Laura, you were the saddest song..." is my favourite line, though "Well, I think I would call tonight...", for personal reasons, makes me feel like I'm not alone after all |

Chris Mills – Watch Chain Lyrics

Chris's voice seems to be able to put you completely at ease when you're down. You know there's somebody who has felt just the same. Beautiful |

One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Jeff is my one true hero (alongside Mr T) and this songs reminds me why, over and over again. |

Compulsion – Juvenile Scene Detective Lyrics
| 22 years ago

Amazing song. Reminds me of long summers of when I was still in mid teens. And playing stuff on the local radio station that nobody else had ever heard of. |

Compulsion – This Is Efficient Living Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
I don't know what exactly happened to Compulsion. They seemed to just fade away after the 2nd album. Shame. Love love love this song. The line "But the days get long..." is my favourite. I think it's pretty simple, charting a relationship from beginning to (difficult) end. |

Coldplay – Yellow Lyrics

|
Lovely song. If you like Chris Martin's vocals you should check out the new album by Faultline, 'Your Love Means Everything'. Two of the songs have vocals provided by him and I think they're some of the best work he's done yet. |

Bill Withers – Hope She'll Be Happier Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
I only started listening to Bill recently and I have to say that the live version of this is one of my favourites of his. I love how on the line "But she's gone" he makes "gone" seem to last forever. Amazing |

Tim Buckley – Once I Was Lyrics

The greatest love song ever? I know my main favourite love songs are of the lost love variety and this is the best, alongside Martha, by Tom Waits |

Chris Mills – Signal/Noise Lyrics
|
Beautiful. One of the greatest songs written in my opinion. Reminds me of the tough end of an even tougher relationship. But I still love to listen to it all the time |

Spiritualized – Stop Your Crying Lyrics
|
I think everyone can find a bit of themselves in this. A universal love song. Beautiful. Listen to it on a personal stereo/cd/md, walking by yourself in the dark of night. Always hits me. Almost has the same effect on me as listening to Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley in the dark.
I like the quiet |

Blur – All Your Life Lyrics
|
This reminds me of a friend that I haven't heard from for too long. She sent me this song on a tape and every now and then I listen to it and remind myself to get back in touch. Aside from my story, it's a wonderful song that never loses its power for me. |

Eels – Manchild Lyrics

Every time I listen to this, it brings both a smile and a tear to my face. Absolutely beautiful. One of my favourite Eels songs. Reminds me of old feelings, long since passed. |

Ben Folds Five – Magic Lyrics
|
I love this song. Almost every time I make a tape for myself or anyone else, it goes on it. I always try to evoke feelings through mix tapes and this one can often sum up exactly how I feel. There does seem to be a hint of Van Morrison in there somewhere. Maybe that's why I came to be such a big Van fan over the last couple of years. |

John Martyn – Solid Air Lyrics
|
I love this completely. As far as I'm aware, Martyn wrote this for his label-mate and friend Nick Drake, who was suffering from severe depression at the time. A very touching song |

Neil Young – The Needle And The Damage Done Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
I'm not even going to begin to point out the meaning of this song to you. To quote from the master himself, Bill Hicks, (drug addicts) "they are sick, they are not criminals". I guess you have no real compassion for people. You can't just make a broad generalisation that all drug addicts want to be addicts. I'm going to stop now before I get angry... |

Johnny Cash – A Boy Named Sue Lyrics
|
I've loved this song for as long as I can remember. Cash was the first artist I loved in a big way, the first tape I can ever remember buying was 'The Storyteller'. One of my all time favourites. I always laugh out loud hearing the live version when he hits the line "my name is Sue, how do you do, now you're gonna die" |

Jeff Buckley – Dream Brother Lyrics
|
this is one of my all-time favourite songs. jeff did write this for his best friend, who was going to leave his girlfriend and the child she was carrying. he wrote the lyric "don't be like the one who made me so old" as a plea to his friend as he himself grew up without his father, who left while his mother was pregnant. this making him old beyond his years. and it also has an extra power for me with the final line being so tragically prophetic. the last line on the only album he ever completed, "asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over". |
