I agree with the emo mocking side. I think this song is pretty horrible and knowing that System usually has pretty intelligent (or at least interesting) lyrics I can't believe they would write something this amatuerish and be serious.
My first thought was that they were mocking the modern trends in rock and everyone who I've made listen to the song agrees. |

| AFI – The Great Disappointment Lyrics

The meaning of this song is fairly obvious to me.
It uses the imagery of him waiting in a graveyard to try and see the angels as a metaphor for him searching for faith.
"so near the cherised ones" is in reference to being with the buried bodies. The references to angels are very obvious.
Once the angels dont come he realizes it was all a lie and that what he had been taught and what he wanted to believe (religion, God) was in fact not real.
The end is then him dealing with this new revalation.
I may be wrong but I dont think I am. I love the song, by the way. |

Nothingface, I wasnt directing that comment to you alone. I just, like many others on this site, get tired of everything boiling down to a back and forth I'm right and your wrong argument. I said that I agreed with you that your opinion is just that and it shouldnt be questioned, so I'm sorry if you took that the wrong way. Now if anyone has anything to say about the SONG it would be greatly appreciated. |

Ok, this is more of a question than an explanation. I have a new idea about what this song means almost everytime I hear it but one thing is always the same. I think this is supposed to be scarcastic song especially when he goes into the 'but doesnt it make you feel better' part, does anyone have any ideas on this? |

Ok, I dont claim to know exactly what this song is about and this explanation is going to sound pretty stupid but listen to the song and try to visualize it. If you listen to Trents voice he sounds very sad and pathetic during the verses. Now with this is mind you can take this song literally and say that somehow he has ended up next to a real pig, maybe he was drunk, and found someone he could talk to that would not criticize him or walk away from him so he spills his guts to this pig to get some things off his chest. After doing this he realizes that crying to a pig is the lowest point that he could ever be in his life so he just stops caring about his life and therefore the chorus of 'nothing can stop me now cause i dont care anymore'. I know that explanation sounds funny but I really think it is a valid one. |

I agree with the meanings posted here about police brutality, white supremicy, and non-conformity. An interesting note, when this song came out many people took the Fuck you I wont do what you tell as a kind of anarchy call to disobey everything. This was not the bands intention and Zach has been extra carefull about his lyrics ever since. |

I just now looked at this site and, in particular this page. I agree with Nothingface in that he should not have to defend his opinions. This site is a good forum for people to state what they feel and not be condemned by everyone else. But when you do have to defend your opinion against attackers it would be much more productive to do it intelligently instead of having no more substance than a barrage of Fuck You's. Now, with that out of the way. Rage Against the Machine is my favorite band, bar none. I do not believe that they became worse with each album and I was very upset when they broke up. As for this song, I agree the first comment that this is about using music to fuel a revolution. |

I'm suprised no one has written about this song yet, I think it is one of Rage's best. This song is about revolution. It is saying that no matter where you look in the world their is oppression and that there are people ready to fight back against this oppression. 'Calm like a bomb' refers to these people lying in wait so that the oppresser does not realize the danger until the day they go to far and a revolution blows up in their face. |

| Rage Against the Machine – Beautiful World (Devo cover) Lyrics

This is an untypical Rage song. The reason being that it is off of their cover album Renegades and it was originally performed by Devo. This song is not a happy song about how life is beautiful at all. It is very scarcastic and cynical about life and how many people are blind to the fact that they are wasting their life away. I really love this song because it speaks to me. I see the world in the same light. |
