first of all, this is the american pie forum. if you want to talk about "your so vain" go to that forum. it has nothing to do with this song. and another thing, who says don mclain does'nt talk about this song? he spent 30 minutes talking about it on behind the music. He originally wrote the song describing the death of his father. But while writting it saw the connection with Buddy Holly and decided to dedicate it to him. McClain "worshiped" him and refers to him as the holy ghost, Valens as the son and The Big Bopper as the father. What McClain is saying is that Holly was basically overlooked until his death. He feels that there were other artist at the time that were getting more attention and were'nt as good. I don't believe that the jester was Bob Dylan - A voice that came from You and me- Dylan did write good lyrics but his voice was awful. I think he is referring to Buddy Holly as the jester, being very talented yet looked down on by many. The players is Buddy Holly's band, Buddy Holly and the Criquits. for everything else look at the post above. It is correct. This is how it is. If you disagree, sorry, but your wrong. |
