if you've ever seen boysetsfire live, then you know they explain each song before they perform it. well the only oppritunity i had to see them they were still fairly new to me, and this is the only meaning to a song i remember. its a song that is thanking all the friends that are true friends and always been there. |

the lyric book explains, so for all you who don't own the cd you should know, this is the short version. a kid is abused by his dad, his mom doesn't stop it. his grandma tells him that if prays for something he'll get it, so one night he prays for wings to fly away. next morning the kid wakes up excited, and he jumps out of his 2nd story bedroom window to fly away, and falls to his death, and then he was free. it paints a vivid picture of how horrible child abuse is. |

i think the song is about what we take for granted. here he is sitting inside a nice warm place, complaining that nothing is on tv, doesn't feel like going out with his friends. and all the while there is a homeless guy who is cold and friendless just down the street. he is saying what right does he have to complain when things could be a lot worse, and putting himself in the homeless guys shoes and wonder how it is "the scale has tipped me fortunate" |
