I don't even know how to describe this song. All I know is I can't just listen to it once- I have to play it over and over for at least an hour, there's just so much emotion in it. I really want to know what other people think the meaning of this song is, because listening to it tonight, it sounds like it's about suicide, and maybe that's pretty obvious, or maybe I'm wrong, but I'd like to know what other people think! Also, does this song make anyone else get chills and cry? I don't know what it is, but this song just has me hooked!

This is by far my all-time favorite song and favorite ben folds or ben folds five song, obviously... i'm not even sure WHY- i can't relate to it quite yet, but MAN, something about it just pulls you in... and i agree w/ neezebeen- this song should give you goosebumps or SOMETHING every time you hear it! this song is so incredible i can't even find any words to describe it! oh, well! :-)

Again, to add on to jfabaza's comment- this song is a true story and when i saw ben in chicago two days ago, he said he threw the drumset in a lake (i forget which one he said, sorry) or something after the exam.

Yup, jfabaza is right- i saw ben two nights ago in Chicago and he told us about how a guy had come up to him after a concert recently and had asked him something like if he had a problem w/ the fact that this guy became a Christian o something... and ben said no, and that it was just a true story, exactly how jfabaza explained! :-)

Ben Folds – Annie Waits Lyrics

This doesn't have to do w/ any of the lyrics, but some people on the .org messageboard for ben folds have brought something to my attention that i overlooked in this song- at the end after ben is done singing, there are little chime-like notes, which people have said is an imitation of a doorbell ringing... I've never heard this particular ring, but i trust that it exists! :-) in any case, it just makes me wonder- who's ringing the doorbell? could it be annie ringing ben's? ben ringing her's? or another man annie hopes will be perfect but never will be? just a thought! :-}

Ben Folds Five – Song for the Dumped Lyrics

I thought I heard Ben say he took this girl out to Taco Bell before she dumped him, hence the "wish I hadn't bought you dinner right before you dumped me." I could be wrong though, but it adds more humor to the song! Also, Ben said since this song is a "sad song" it should've been written in a minor key instead of major- hearing his "new" version of it in a minor key is hilarious- go see him in concert. :-)

Ben Folds – Fred Jones Pt. 2 Lyrics	23 years ago
Fred Jones was a real person. The lyrics in the song "Cigarette" were actually the words from a short article in a paper that Ben read and he just made a song out of it. As far as this song goes, it's about the same Fred Jones but I'm pretty sure it's not a true story. And a lot of the people in Ben's songs are real people, by the way. :-)
