The Billy Nayer Show – A Lyrics 19 years ago
From the film "The American Astronaut." This is the song that The Boy Who Actually Saw a Woman's Breast (Gregory Russell Cook) sings at the night rally on Jupiter.

I don't really know what this song means, but it is very clever. I don't know why writer/director/lyricist Cory McAbee decided to use this song in the rally scene, other than the fact that it's very energetic and the workers of Jupiter can shout along to the lyrics.

As for why the Boy is leading a night rally on Jupiter, that's a bit complicated. You'll have to see the film.

The Billy Nayer Show – Love Smiles Lyrics 19 years ago
From the film "The American Astronaut." This is the song that Eddie, the bartender at the Ceres Crossroads (played by Bill Buell) sings at the dance contest.

Cory McAbee, writer/director/star of "The American Astronaut" and singer/songwriter/autoharpist for the Billy Nayer Show, has said that this is one of the first songs he ever wrote. He says the lyrics are very naive, but to him that's part of their charm.

The Billy Nayer Show – Girl with the Vagina Made of Glass, The Lyrics 19 years ago
It's basically about a woman with the perfect body, the kind you only find in ancient mythology. It shows up near the end of "The American Astronaut," where Samuel Curtis (Cory McAbee, leader of the Billy Nayer Show) sings it to the women of Venus, the planet of beautiful women who can reproduce without men.

The Billy Nayer Show – Baby in the Jar, The Lyrics 19 years ago
From the film "The American Astronaut." This is a short duet between Samuel Curtis (BNS's Cory McAbee) and The Boy Who Actually Saw a Woman's Breast (Gregory Russell Cook) after they leave Jupiter. Curtis has just given Lee Vilensky, the owner of Jupiter (Peter McRobbie) a real live girl in exchange for the Boy.

I'm pretty sure this song is about the real live girl, "the baby in the jar with glasses on and a gun." First, she is, in fact, a baby in a jar. Second, she is cloned from Eddie, the Ceres Crossroads bartender (Bill Buell), who indeed has glasses and a gun.

Sparks – This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us Lyrics 19 years ago
Basically, the song's protagonist keeps trying to work up the nerve to ask out various women, but then he gets terrified and chickens out (each time accompanied by an imagined disaster). He later reaffirms his masculinity by watching old cowboy movies, but the next day, the exact same thing happens. It's a vicious cycle.

It's also interesting to note that I submitted this to the site two and a half years ago, and after a horrible series of downtimes, it's still here. I was afraid everything got deleted.

David Bowie – Ashes to Ashes Lyrics 21 years ago
in the line "in such an early song," he sounds like he's actually singing "in such another song."

the question is: what is all that talking in the background of the "the shrieking of nothing" part? it's creepy. bowie is creepy.

this is probably my favorite bowie song. i love it.

Björk – All Is Full of Love Lyrics 22 years ago
question: what the hell is the line after "your doors are all shut?" it's not in the printed lyrics. some places online seem to think it's "an-bithel-mel-angel," which not only makes no sense, it doesn't even sound like what she's singing.

perhaps it's icelandic?

Joe Jackson – Sunday Papers Lyrics 22 years ago
*in the lyric book that came with the cd, this line says "if you wanna know about the man gone bonkers." but it is my belief that this is what he's saying on the recording.

The Beta Band – Dry the Rain Lyrics 22 years ago
my one friend believes that at some points during the "if there's something inside" part, the singer switches between "i will be yr light" and "i will be alright." i don't know.

Big Star – In The Street Lyrics 22 years ago
another reason why it's criminal that big star is largely overlooked... you may recognize this song, in a different incarnation, as the theme from "that '70s show." (look in the credits, something like "based on IN THE STREET by chris bell and alex chilton...") result: many will go through life believing that "that '70s song" as it is now known, is a cheap trick song... i am here to set the record straight.
