| The Smiths – How Soon Is Now? Lyrics

There was some dispute earlier on this site as to whether the lyrics listed above are correct or whether they should read "I am the Sun and the air." The lyrics above are correct.
The line is paraphrasing George Eliot's (Mary Ann Evans's) novel Middlemarch, which says: "To be born the son of a Middlemarch manufacturer, and inevitable heir to nothing in particular" using "heir" in the sense of inheriting something (or rather, inheriting nothing in particular).
It's a Victorian novel, so I think when Morrissey says "vulgar," it's a reference to commonality rather than something being in poor taste. |

RichardWard: " WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! the beatles broke up when did that happen oh well at least John still has his solo career"
Um, I don't like being the bearer of bad news, but I don't think John's been writing much music since, oh, say, 1980. You mean Paul? |

| Barenaked Ladies – I Live With It Everyday Lyrics

He's depressed about accidentally killing his friend. It drove him to attempt suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. It's about the things we do that we're ashamed of, but refuse to allow ourselves to forget.
I know this is a song with a serious message, but I can't get over how awesome the bridge is. Especially when everything cuts out under the lyrics and then the drums come in. |

| Eve 6 – Amphetamines Lyrics

It's about how he can't stop thinking about her "I smelled you on my shirt today" but he knows that being near to her will be worse, in the long run. "Of course the hardest part is letting go/ but you've got to, or you know/ you'll end up waiting by the/ phone..." So he has to do the sucky thing and move on, to stop seeing her and separate himself from his past: "Tell you again that I'm fine/ then we go about our separate lives" |

| Lifehouse – Simon Lyrics

This song is one of my favorite Lifehouse songs, in fact one of my favorite songs, period. Of course, everyone has mentioned that he had a friend named Simon, and it's probably about him. You also can't deny that it has pretty significant references to the biblical figure, and given Lifehouse's Christian themes, it shouldn't be at all surprising. Also not surprising is the fact that it could easily be both- symbolism, allusion, and comparison. That's just called good songwriting. Something they're so good at. |

| Evanescence – Tourniquet Lyrics

wow this song rules. actually this band rules. Specifically, in this song, I have to agree with lostinadyingworld and Gonzalesaurus, it's about suicide. She's obviously talking about a sin, and the first lines "I tried to kill the pain / but it only brought more" really support this. Of course, all of their songs involve "wounds" of some kind and it's usually metaphorical so who can really tell.
Still, there has to be something to the fact that it's called "Tourniquet." A touriquet is more than just a bandage. It's a makeshift field dressing in which you tie a rag or something around a limb to cut off the flow of blood to a wound. It's a dangerous practice because it often results in severe tissue damage from lack of blood. I don't see what that means in the song but I'm convinced that there is significance in the desperate method of a tourniquet and in that it causes damage as it prevents blood loss. |

These guys rule. I heard "Burn" during the credits of "Reign of Fire" and within two days I had bought the album. I completely love this band. They have a heavy rock sound with awesome lyrics (reminiscient of Eve6) and the lead vocalist has real talent. Sometimes with other bands I get the feeling that they just drew straws and one of the guitar players got stuck being the singer. MaG will have real success so everyone who reads this go buy their album Resonance right now to make sure that they do! |

Follow what is right for you. Don't be afraid to have to head against the current and don't let your fear of what "the hive" will think. Fear is "the way that everyone else gets around." I love how Incubus does this without it being some stupid crap about "everyone's special here's a song about how I am inspirational and unique yay cool me." There's enough of that as it is. Thanks for the song, guys. |

I can't tell what this song is about. Is someone contemplating suicide?
Just kidding, but seriously, has maybe the friend already killed himself? "We'll he's on the table and he's gone to code" as in he's dead in the hospital. |

-AThousandMoons- I think it's about an ex wanting to see them. He says that he wants to "put together everything that's broken" and mentions a break several times. |

Punk? Pop? Who cares? Everyone here is so concerned about "being an idividual" and "it's all about being an individual." If you want individuals then just stop telling people who's doing what wrong and who isn't good enough for you to listen to. If you like the song, listen to it. If you don't, write your own crappy music and listen to that. |

It's fine if Creed is or isn't officially a Christian band. You can't deny, though, that they have a lot of religious messages in their music, though. |

| Creed – One Last Breath Lyrics

The "breakup" theory is really stretching it a bit. Creed has lots of songs about God and this is another. It has all the other classic Creed themes: being lost in life, tragedy, and threatening death. The reference to thunder and grace further supports it. The song is about a man who is lost in hard times ("I'm down to one last breath"). He thinks of suicide as a solution ("maybe six feet ain't so far down"). He ends up finding real solace in God ("I cried out heaven save me" "please come stay with me") He finds new meaning in life in God and God's will and grows closer to God ("'Cause I still believe there's something left for you and me For you and me For you and me").
Completelt awesome song. Definitely my favorite Creed song. |

| The Goo Goo Dolls – Iris Lyrics

This song is perhaps my favorite Goo Goo Dolls song, and they may be my favorite band. But Newfoundfinch, what do you mean, "sellout"? The Goo Goo Dolls are one of the most artistic bands I know of, and punk bands are among the biggest sellouts ever. Not that I have anything particularly against punk rock, but its more about drugs and violence than actual musical art. |
