This song seems so much different from all the other LDOA songs... I really love the rest of them, but this one sticks out, and I can't quit playing it.
Anyone have an idea of what he is apologising for? |

Wow...he *does* sound like Filbert the turtle... I dunno, I mean, I'm pretty hardcore about Bright Eyes, but this is prolly my least favorite song of Conor's... |

Lord yes, this is easily my favorite one on the album. I feel like its about a loveless and yet dependant relationship. Gah, it makes me want to give Tim Kasher a hug or something... |

I feel like this kind of goes hand-in-hand with 'Butcher the Song'. He left this girl maybe (or maybe not) to fuel pain for his music, and now the regret and memory of her haunts him. |

One of the things I love most about this album is the reoccurance of the little "Doo do Doo do Doo do Doo do" ditty. Its also on a song called 'Nonsense' that isn't on the album, followed by "It doesn't matter now, what the song's about". I feel like the repeating of it at the end of the album is like him reiterating that to himself, that he is more important that what he creates. |

I have two questions: Does Tim Kasher have a daughter?
And can anyone tell me how the lyrics to this album got added? I have been trying to figure out a way to add lyrics for about a month before these magically appeared. |

I almost completely agree with iwantedtoholdyou. I don't think that Tim Kasher would write a song about rape so blatantly. I think he would hide it behind a LOT more metaphors.
I don't know if anyone has said this already, but I think the line about 'the moon has raped me' refers more to a girl first getting her period. Menstruation follows the same cycle as the moon. Okay, I am being gross. Sorry.
To be honest, there were so many comments on this that I just kinda skimmed thru them all. |

It seems as tho the album does have a happy ending - for the drunken brother.
He won't have to live in the shadow of his brother anymore, and one of the last lines of the album talks about how he now has a 'second chance'. |

this is a great song. I think it is more about making the turn to God for help with his addiction, rather than just being about herion addiction.
Okay, is it just me, or does anyone else almost feel hypocritical for listening to PTL out of sheer pleasure of the music? Like, sometimes I listen to it and feel really ungodly and dirty. Am I alone here? |

I think this may have been written about being in Nirvana, and it could have been written while he was still in it.
I am really glad someone posted the lyrics to this song. I got my copy of the album when it first came out, and it doesn't have the lyrics in it, I have heard that the others do. |

Is this the song that starts out with someone singing 'Hush little ___, don't say a word'? If not, which one is it? If so, is that his father singing that to him or his brother? |

| Bright Eyes – The Joy in Forgetting/The Joy in Acceptance Lyrics

This song is so beautiful. I think its pretty obviously about hope and recovery after a broken heart (on top of other things going on). Conor has a really great way of putting a glimmer of hope in even the most depressing songs.
'There is so much more'...Just that line alone is great. |

| Bright Eyes – You Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. Lyrics

Okay, I thought it was
'Well if you don't THEN this book's all lies
If you don't THEN my plans will all be ruined'
It takes on a whole new meaning with the 'then's changed to 'think's. Am I crazy?
Also, does anyone have any idea what the book is that he would be referring to in those lines? |

I don't think that they named the band Saves the Day so that it would spell STD when abbreviated. I read an interview with Chris somewhere that says they got the name from a Farside song called 'Hero', and they just liked how it sounded. |

I thought it was more of a lullaby written for a child (even tho he has no children). It could have been written for one of his nieces. Then again, I could be painfully wrong. And I probably am. |

My dear lord, this song is fantastic. I love how Ben is able to change the tone and feel of his songs to fit the emotion. So many bands just drone on with different variations of the same song. |

I always thought of Arienette as being his ideal girl, the one true love of his, and he hasn't ever met her. He has given her this name until he finds her. In the mean time, he writes songs calling to her and letting her know he is looking for her, and that she is the only one who can ever reach him and get thru to him. |

I wonder what made him sample this story of all the ones he could have sampled. Conor is such a genius. I mean, if I was listening to a child read this, I would take it at face-value. Conor adds a whole new feeling and level to it, just by incorporating it into a song. |

I hate to say it, but this is one of my favorite Bright Eyes songs, even if its not a popular choice. I always wondered why he references Neely O'Hara in it, if its ultimately about bulimia...so many ways to interpret it. |

| Bright Eyes – An Interview with Conor Oberst Lyrics
| 23 years ago

In response to LuckyMonkey, I was told by a guy who claimed to know Conor that its not actually Conor speaking in the interview, its a friend of his who was helping with the recording at the time and Conor set him up to act like what people percieve Conor Oberst to be (which I am guessing is a schizo-neurotic). The guy talking in the background is supposedly Conor himself, and he's cursing and talking about how full of shit the friend playing Conor is. I'm not too sure about the story, coz it sounds way too much like Conor's actual speaking voice in the interview...its either that or just people who were a the recording goofing off in the background while they were taping this. |

| Bright Eyes – Lover I Don't Have to Love Lyrics

Okay, now when I saw him perform this in Nashville, the lyrics at the end were "Do you like to hurt? Coz I do...Now HURT ME!!!" (I capitalised coz he screamed it, in that way that only he can). I wouldn't normally be so anal-retentive about lyrics, but when I heard that part, it literally sent a chill down my spine. Good song. And kudos to firefly, coz I was seriously sitting around for a week going "I wish I could find the lyrics to that fucking song". |
