I think this song has a lot to do with the loss of innocence and even conformity to society's standards. The one person who sticks out is the one who still has their glow, and though the people around us will say that they will be there for us, they really just want us to conform to their own standards so that they may not feel as though they are the ones that has lost what is important to them. Innocence is one of these things. |

My take on this is that he has finally reached a state of self awareness, realizing that he has committed deeds that have caused harm to himself and to other people because of the way society traps us into doing so. Though he tries to escape the memories of these deeds, he finds himself almost unable to and, though he wishes he could be rid of them, he knows that nothing will every take the memories away. He thinks that WANTING to do good and DOING good are two completely different things. . .and though he felt as though wanting to do the right things was good enough in the past, he is starting to doubt it will ever be good enough to himself anymore because of things that he has seen/experienced. He thinks perhaps that trying todo good might be futile and though he has seen that he must try, he still knows that the traps of society once had him in their grasps and he does not know if his attempts at grace will be good enough to help spark the realization of what is right and what is wrong in other people because they have been blinded by these things for so long, due to one reason or another. He feels that though he might be flawed, he is still striving to find the truth and beauty in the things he knows because the memory of something beautiful stays with him forever. |

This song is a song that is trying to state the blantant ignorance people have when it comes to other people's ideas. The ignorant take in all this knowledge about what THEY think is true and THEIR idead, while never actually taking the time to learn about the other side's opnions, never realizing that there may be truth to what the other person has to say. He can no longer keeo silent what he thinks and feels and will try as hard as he can to understand other people's views, while still holding fast to his own. He chooses to do what he does because he finds truth in his cause. . .he's not asking to change any's views, but simply asking that others understand why he has chosen his. |

God, I love American Nightmare. This song is amazing. I feel, and this is strictly my opinion, that this song says:
This person feels as though every relationship in which they have loved someone ended up hurting them. The things they dreamed of having are things that they feel have been discarded by their past lovers like worthless trash. They pray for release from memories of everything that went wrong. There is someone who they wish they could love, being afraid to even try again due to the fact that they have been hurt so much, but this person, for certain reasons, does not know how much he/she is loved. They have escaped to the city to be free of memories, but find that the city causes them more pain because they are reminded of how alone they are. They feel like all the people in the city are dead. . .at a loss with feeling. . .and they write this with contention and the feeling that they, themselves are dying on the inside. They try to explain, but their heart is weary, and tired of trying to make their love understand what exactly they are feeling, and if their loved one doesn't realize how they feel soon, that their days of trying to explain will be over soon. |

I love this song. I can't help it. Modern English was great, but the cover is even better. To me, I think this means that the relationship they are in is coming to its inevitable end. They have been going around in circles and still cannot find a way to resolve what is keeping them apart. He wants to tell her that it is over, but doesn't know how. He longs for the days when they had something beautiful, because that beauty, like a rose's, has faded, leaving only something that is crumbling away before his eyes. |

This song, to me means that whoever this person is, they have been causing him so much pain that he wants to show them how much he hurts by hurting them back. This person is setting his/herself up for hurt through actions and words ("You've got a grenade stuck in your teeth and you're pulling at the pin") and the only thing that they can wait for is the inevitable end. |

I love this song. I first heard it on the *snicker* radio back about 2 years ago. I saw Thursday last summer at the Warped Tour. They're amazing live and such nice people. And Geoff is like sex on a stick. |
