The first line of the chorus is "sullen and bored, the kids stay", not "stoned in the mall". This is a direct reference to their other song, "Sentimental", which has a similar structure in the chorus. The second line, however, does say "stoned in the mall", as written here. Can anyone make out the interweaving lyrics that are sung over the "Wish I was old and a little sentimental" lines? I think they'd provide great insight into this song. All I can make out is "You've gotta see the way he's looking (????) at the waves now." I'm not even sure that's entirely correct or if it changes at all during the repetitions. |

I don't quite understand this song. It all seems pretty straightforward until it gets to the "another fool" parts. The most I can guess is that he's sitting around thinking about the life he used to have and a) his girl died on the way to some place and he's just pretending she's at the movies and that she'll be back later b) she left him and isn't coming back and he's in denial about it, pretending (again) that she's at the movies. The lyrics say "he wonders if he's really lost his one joy" so apparently his significant other has left him in some capacity. The lines about "another fool" suggest that he's in denial about reality and seem to say that these events have already happened. I don't really get why he's called a fool, though. Nor do I how you can drive a "broken car" to "find the show". So it seems like the word "broken" is of some significance. The most puzzling lines to me are "And he wonders if the car will start tomorrow/Or he'll have to take the bus instead" These are just some things to ponder. Can anyone shed any light? |

| Komar is exactly right. I can't believe anyone takes this song seriously, let alone says things like "this is the best song on the album!" | |

| Now that we've all agreed this song is beautiful and emotional (thanks for stating the obvious, btw), anyone care to actually try to explain what it's about? | |

| Sounds more like the loved one in the song has died, rather than just broken up with the narrator. That's how I always took it, though either way works. | |
