| John Mayer – Why Did You Mess with Forever Lyrics
| 23 years ago
|
oh man jm totally describes the only time i've ever been in love. like JPlay, my ex got drunk and cheated on me and we got into a big fucken fight and broke up ("why did you mess with forever"). damnit, then i had some meaningless rebound relationships cause i wasn't over him yet ("back to you"). half a year later i saw him around and he wanted to get back with me but i was already with someone else ("comfortable"). things were good for a while (lots of "your body is a wonderland" if you catch my drift) but that first break up changed us both too much--me more than him--and it couldn't work.
anyways, i left some crap at his house and the line "i came by to get my things, thank you for getting the door.... but i don't feel right walking in no more" is fucken EXACTLY how i feel. |

the dudes sing the songs they write. so i'm pretty 90% sure this is a jim song. jim has said on repeated occasions that the songs mean whatever you want them to mean. personally, i think it's an addiction song. you can be addicted to a person or a feeling, after all. |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Soma Lyrics

Brave New World was written in the 50s (i believe...) so it's interesting to see how much has come true. we have soma now (prozac). both of these drugs dull your senses and like nattydread said, help you escape the reality of life. i reckon it's a little about the book and a little about him. maybe he read the book and the protagonist reminded him a little too much of himself. |

i love this song man, it by far is my fave mad caddies song. it's so killer, the bass is bad ass, and his voice is like... DAMN.
i think the songs pretty self-explanatory. tired people don't know what they can do. not like physically tired, i think he's mentally tired. |

In an interview, Jim said it was about a past relationship--I'm not sure if it's his or not, he is super ambiguous when it comes to songs, and he's even said that when he says I or you he could be talking about anyone, and not necessarily himself. He said it's about a girl--I believe he uses the words "psycho bitch"--and the relationship was bad but the guy just didn't want to let go. Happened in 99 I believe he said. I think he also talked about how nostalgia is death, which is another one of his awesomely written lyrics. Well I'll find that interview and post it up for sure. |

| Jimmy Eat World – Bleed American Lyrics
| 23 years ago
|
"I normally don't like to reveal the intent of our songs," Adkins explains, "but I do feel I should go into detail regarding the title of 'Bleed American.'
"The lyrics describe a period when I was trying to deal with panic attacks. I didn't leave the house much and when I did, I'd go out drinking with friends – alcohol seemed to numb the anxiety. At that time I was also reading Howard Zinn's "A People's History Of The United States 1492 To Present." I was amazed at how far back labor struggle goes in the U.S. and how intense it's been. On some level, I guess I equated that with what I was going through personally. It inspired me.
"So one day I decided I was sick of feeling helpless. I made the simple decision that I wasn't going to let myself feel like that anymore. The title 'Bleed American' is a reference to the lyric 'I bleed the greed from my arm/ Won't they give it a rest now.' That was meant to say I'd decided to change.
"'Bleed American' is about the desire to change one's life for the better. We named the album Bleed American after that song because that theme of the desire to better oneself runs throughout the entire album.
here's that meaning I was talking bout, another one straight from Jim. |

This is my 2nd fave JEW song. I agree with gemini on how "my lungs are so numb from holding back" hits close to home... this is such a beautiful song. See it's songs like this that make me wanna smack all these girls Jim writes about cause damn, they go and break his heart! They all aggravate me!
But alas, artists need inspiration... |

Jim is one sexy voiced guy! Esp when he sings "If you don't know honey why'd you just say so?", that is the sexay part of the song. But I gots to agree with everyone on the "and I'm sorry that I'm such a mess I drank all my money could get" part--I do that kinda alot, but it's usually the guy who "took everything you let me have and.. never loved you back"... |

I think I said this in another post, but Jim was saying this album was about breaking out of his anxiety attacks and stuff (you can go to their site www.jimmyeatworld.net and look in the news archives in sept if you like references). He refered to the lyrics "bleed from my arm" in this bit. I don't think senor Jim had a problem with the bottle, drinking just makes you... better. This song does have a phatty beat though, props to Zach and Rick. |

When I listen to this song the DIY part stands out to me the most. I think it's just about how Capitol wouldn't help them out as much as they needed, esp in promoting areas and such. Maybe that's why he's saying you gotta do it all yourself, and all this "plastic, shake up snow" is plain bull and fake. |
