Yeah i reckon too. I have no idea what it really means apart from the back of the cd case. but fuck when i hear it i don't care. this song provides me with a temporary enclosure to hide in. And to speak the truth i don't fight at all. It's simple yet technical, beutiful yet brutal. I don't care if i'm weak minded, but it's a weakness. i'll melt inside the boundrys that "Spiders" lays any day.
What about "simple yet technical, beuatiful yet brutal." I'm going to write that down, that's fucken good. I'm going to use that as my word for the week even tough it's a phrase. Wow i'm spun out. |

Hay, does anyone know what timing the start is in? I'm a drummer and it's got me fucked. I think it's in 11/4 or 13/4 rather then good ol 4/4. It's hard because each pause is shorter than the one before. if it's not one of the timings i said before then they must be just looking at each other and going "NOW" or something. what ever it is if someone could help it would be good. evereytime i play the cd i skip back over and over again untill i finally get the shits and skip the whole song altogether. |

You people should take the the time out to look behind the lyrics. thier is some really delicate overdubbing and lot's of feeling and passion transfered from the musicians minds and hands to thier instruments. about the first three tomes i heard "Chop Suey" i listened to the the vocals because thier catchy and well harmonised. but now i listen to everything else, like the 3 or 4 guitar tracks the chord change close to the end (not actually a chord change but the chords are changed around), how and when John uses emphasisation and why he changes the beat near the end. SOAD always say that whatever the song means to YOU is important, not what someone else says. Admire the song for it's beuty, if you sit down and try to work out the keyboard bit at the end you will see what i mean. i'm not a keyboard player, i have no idea, my sister has one and i just looked for the on button and concentrated soley on the one bit and shielas think its good, especially if you don't tell them what it really is.
I read all 148 opinions or so and not one of them said anything about how the music behind the lyrics makes this song so emotional. Just think, if the BACKSTREET BOYS had of gotten hold of these lyrics it would of been a totally differant song... with the same lyrics. THANK FUCK FOR THAT.

I reckon this song is about trying to keep faith, even after being dealt sickening blows like cancer. James's parents were catholics and when they got cancer they didn't want any medical treatment, they just believed in thier faith. Eventually they died. Read the lyrics to "God that failed" and you'll see again James's view on faith.
Another thing is that he refers to "Father" in the chorus, " Father " being God and also "Mother", being Mother Earth. The rest being exellent songwriting on top of one of my all time Favourite riffs. I even use the song title for all of my online screen names.

This song to me, is about a person you know, and every time they talk they something stupid or not worth saying at all. Getting people into fights and just generally lying. That pisses me off and probably pisses Phil off aswell. |
